A buyer claimed an item was rec'd damaged, I do not take returns but I wanted to be fair so I accepted return. The buyer sent the item back without the packing materials, it is now damaged beyond repair. what do I do?

Sorry about the bad return, but you need to read the money back. There is no such thing as no returns, your rules are over ridden, by eBays.

This platform offers a MBG to all buyers. Your own no returns policy is superseded by eBay’s return policy in the TOS. I'm sorry that your buyer was careless in returning your item but there isn't anything you can do, short of taking the buyer to small claims court. That would mean this transaction is high enough to warrant such an action, and there's no guarantee that you would win there either. Online selling can be difficult, but the majority of buyers are very good. Best of luck to you....

Can agree with @lamber9347
The only protections sellers get is when they offer free returns. If a item is damaged then they can refund 50% of the item price and ebay protects them, sadly this isn't the way with No return items.

There is no protection on ebay for seller, seller has to protect himself/herself.
1 : Be a Top rated seller then you can deduct 50% even if you no offer free returns.
2 : offer free returns and you can deduct only up to 50% even if you are not top rated seller.
3 : always report such a buyer first before you deduct any amount in order to close a return. after close the return block the buyer.
4 : reporting a buyer will protect you in term when you want appeal for a feedback and also from pulling the deducted amount from your account if buyer reach to ebay about your deduction.
5 : Always be in professional tone with buyers even they are scammer so when you reach to ebay for appeal so they can help you with, unfortunately regular CS helpline representatives are not helpful, concierge program helpline is very helpful or merchant support representatives are also very helpful.
6 : sell small size items, less expensive on ebay so you can have more profit, if you want sell large size items then do not buy label through ebay, create business account with UPS and make a deal with them, UPS do not force sellers to use dimensions to ship the items for irregular packages. ebay force sellers to use dimensions where other platform does not force sellers. you can save up to 15% shipping cost but its not that easy you have to do homework and figure it out.
Tip # Do not process order if any buyer ask you so many questions before placing an order, there are highly chances that buyer will return the item back to you. if someone ask you so many question before placing an order just block that person from purchasing and avoid from problem.
