buyer scam? said new item arrived damaged, shipped back with forwarding address

Buyer said item was damaged, brand new tablet. Returned item using my label (who know what they sent) with a forwarding address. USPS marked out for delivery today, then marked as forwarded. Clearly the buyer messed with the label.

Do I have any recourse?

The bigger question is... did your buyer open a Return request?

Yes they did. I just checked with the post office and caught it. The buyer returned an empty envelop and changed the label, and forwarded to a non-existent address down the block.
