Seller has me send return using his label instead of ebay return label

I buy a phone and it was cracked. I send it for return. He sends me link in a message instead of using ebay return. I send item back but ebay shows to print label and send the item. The item was sent FedEx and his return us through fedex. The ebay return was usps. Also, the return I send item is a different address, different state than where I brought it. The seller has 60000+ transactions and the address for return is a business. I want to be sure I receive refund when item shows arrived by FedEx tracking.

It is probably less expensive for them to have the item sent by FedEx.  If you can’t mark the item as having been shipped and add the FedEx tracking number to the return you will need to contact eBay.  Otherwise they won’t know that the item was sent back.  It might be easiest to contact them by sending a message through eBay Facebook.

Can you add the FedEx tacking number to the return request? If not, I'd go to this page and request a call back at the bottom to let them know what is going on.  https://www.ebay.com/help/buying/returns-refunds/return-item-refund?id=4041&st=12&pos=1&query=Return...

If for some reason your refund is denied by eBay, remember that you can fall back on your credit card or PayPal. Be sure to keep copies of everything.

I have the tracking number. The estimated delivery date is today. It is odd why seller had me ship item using his link in message instead of the ebay return label. His return address is a different state than the address used to ship item to me. I just want to be sure things are being done correctly so I can be sure to get refund.

The estimated delivery date is April 5 for return when it was originally April 2nd. I can't edit comment so I had to make new one.

Seller has responded that they recieve updates of item through shipping from link they provided. I also messaged ebay. Item is expensive, that is why I am a little worried. Is it normal  and valid for ebay TOS for a seller to have item sent through their label instead of ebay return?

Was this a big seller?  Some have several fulfillment centers and one central location where they take returns, and they'll use their own Fed-Ex account.  eBay does support Fed-Ex as one of their shipping options.

Yes. Also, ebay updated tracking number on ebay to FedEx tracking number, and told me to contact them on the 5th for refund. I took the other person's advice and contracted ebay facebook and they changed tracking on site to the FedEx number. You guys have been so helpful and thank you.
