Paid $19.19 for small spool of fishing line. It arrived in wrong color AND when I tied to use it, it broke like thread. Seller agreed to accept return and send a label. No label arrived. Then I git a notice from eBay telling me that "We were unable to get a free return shipping label because it is bulky." That is false. Item fits it the palm of my hand. Post office wants about $18.00 to ship the item back to seller in china - so I would pay as much to ship as the refund amount! eBay also warns "If you do not send the item, we might close your return and you might not receive a refund." What can I do now?

The item was returned and shipment paid by myself. I am seeking reimbursement. It has been more than 5 days since speaking with an agent. Guess am gonna have to try that again. 😎

Oh I see. That's the problem.
Unfortunately from my understanding, you aren't entitled a refund on return shipping if you opt to ship it yourself.
If you ship it yourself you are basically opting to pay for return shipping.
GL on trying to get that refund. 😥 Maybe they will give you a 1-time reimbursement out of eBay's pocket.

I may have to bite the bullet on this one. Lesson learned:
No more orders from China for this guy . . .
Thanks for the clarification robbie3141 . . .

Not a problem, but if you do end up buying again if the seller doesn't provide you a return shipping label within 3 days. Simply ask eBay to step in and help and they will basically tell the Seller to provide a label or they will. Since it's international, eBay from my experience can't issue those labels so after a 5-day case hold, they will just allow you to keep the item and give you a full refund.
I think you got nervous from the way eBay displays things 'Ship item back or it may be closed'.
Basically, if you get something that wasn't described and you don't have a label and you are seeing that message, Simply ask eBay to step in. eBay favors the buyer very heavily, so I have never been nervous.

You are absolutely correct, 'Ship item back or it may be closed' was the trigger that set my self-return in motion.
eBay needs to do better . . . 😒

Unfortunately despite our well-intentioned advice
-- the Ask eBay to step in never appears ... not in 3 days, not a week, not ever
-- once the seller stalls the return request by accepting the return, and then not issuing a label.
There is no button to click, to ask eBay to step in: The screen remains until the case closes ... without a refund.
And eBay cannot get a reimbursement if the buyer pays for return shipping themselves, as you now know. Instead, you needed to contact eBay on Facebook, not by chat @el*ebony*knight again as you know: You're not opening a Facebook account for social media, just to go directly to send a private message to eBay.

That is indeed an issue with the site. However, there is no problem with asking eBay to step in via Chat. As soon as you do all that goes away return closes and a case is opened. The seller provides a return label or eBay will after 5 days unless it's an international return address. If it is then you get to keep the item and get a full refund.
There is really no issue other than eBay's website lacking options to escalate once a return has been accepted.
