I sold a $929 dollars iphone in eBay. The buyer claimed item is not as described and asked for a return. I sent a return label and expected the item back to process the refund. The tracking then indicated that a delivery attempt had been made and according to eBay that is just as good as the item having been delivered and eBay refunded the buyer. I went to the USPS to try and locate the package that had not been delivered and they show me the package but say I could not pick it up because it was not address to me. The USPS system shows that the original label in the system was address to me but their policy is that they will only deliver the package to the address on the actual package. I got a picture of the actual package with the altered label along with a notice from the USPS that the package could not be delivered because it was not addressed to me. Contacted eBay customer service and they contacted the "off line" department to process a refund. Never got refunded. Contacted Customer Service at least 8 times and was assured that a manual refund would be issued. Never got the refund. On my final contact with eBay Customer Service they said my story did not add up because they know the USPS only delivers to the address that the original label was issue for. I was basically scammed by a buyer that knows eBay's and USPS shipping process better than eBay itself and have no Seller Protection out $1000 plus countless hours on the phone. How can scammers actually get away with it and eBay not stand behind their product?
This is well known scam that buyer altered the shipping label so it is either not deliverable or delivered to somewhere in the same zip code. Then eBay will refund the buyer from your pocket.
