Hoping I win a case a buyer just opened for a refund. The purchase was made & I sent the item with tracking. The buyer was returning it but was not received. I have not seen a tracking no. provided. Really hope the decision is made in my favor! I would lose if I could not provide tracking on lost mail. The same rule should apply to returns! Enjoy your evening, all.

I believe it does; the 'tracking' number provided on the 'return' has to show 'delivered' back to you for it to be a valid return. Without it, there is nothing the buyer can hang their hat on.

...eBay gives both seller and buyer a time frame for returning package...when the deadline is reached, eBay will notify the seller to ask for eBay to step in to close the case in seller's favor...(speaking from my experience)
...the worst case scenario is buyers provide a fake tracking number that the package ends up delivered to their friends or relatives homes, not the seller's house...eBay didn't bother to double check whereabouts of the delivery destination but automatically refund buyers as soon as the tracking record showed delivery...

My returns all have tracking - I am given a copy of the label in the return view on e-Bay and it should show you the date the Buyer shipped it, etc. As the Seller, you will get an email telling you when it arrives and prompting you as the Seller to refund the Buyer.
Go into your Return view for this order transaction. Everything should be there. Good luck!

Don't know how it works for Canada, but here in USA my returns have always had a tracking # .
I find that most easily in my "informed delivery" (USPS delivery info service)

The return labels eBay provides DO have tracking!!!
If a buyer purchases their own label it would also have tracking since the only USPS service without tracking is Lettermail.

If you ever get a sneaky buyer sending their return to a different address than what is recorded with ebay. Simply go to the PO and have them do a package research case and they WILL have evidence that this package went to the wrong address. Then, call ebay and get the PO to send an official report to them of the tracking and where the package ended up. This is a warning to would be scammers using this scheme. It will not work with a smart seller who is on top of the game.

It's too early to rejoice.

Sorry - forgot you are in Canada......does e-Bay give buyers a return label in Canada with no tracking? That would not be good!
Sorry - totally forgot where you are located!

Yes, buyers can choose to buy their own label and they should enter that tracking data into the return case if they do not use a seller generated label. I get surprise deliveries at time where no tracking was uploaded into the return case. If you get the item back you need to issue a refund. I always also document that the buyer sent the item back with a different tracking number that we provided.

The biggest problem here is the amount of time eBay has been giving buyers to return items. For example, if a buyer wants to return something and you approve the return with a label on say July 19, eBay will grant the buyer until August 2 to send the item back (plus a grace period of a day or 2). This was done because of the Covid narrative. Now that everyone is vaccinated and everything is opened, buyers should only be given 3 days to return them (like it used to be, like it should be). There is no need for extended waits for any seller to get their merchandise back so that $$ can be refunded.

eBay doesn't care if he provides tracking. They only care if I pay him for returning shipping. Since he already mailed it (??), I won't be sending him a label. If he doesn't provide tracking, how much am I supposed to pay him for the return postage? I'd certainly like to know why he doesn't need proof of shipping!

Buyer who do not play by the rules here and send back packages without any tracking info are going to get scammed. If there is NO tracking recorded anywhere, the seller can simply get the package back and if they are dishonest they can keep the item and not refund without any recourse here.

if your label shows tracking part of the way back and it gets lost then the seller is out the money
if the seller supplies the lable and it gets lost along the way you are out the money
only buyers who ship back goods with there own label can lose
