How is it possible that eBay does not have something automated (besides returning funds within 2 days) for a seller to resend the correct item if a seller mistakenly sends the wrong item? I was told by eBay to open a return case as a buyer after I received the wrong item (so I would receive a return shipping label and not have to pay out of my pocket for it)... and find out the seller's only option is to issue me a refund! How can a seller make something right and send the correct item I paid for (which I would prefer) if the only option is a refund?? The seller is willing to resend the item... and as a buyer, I want the item I bought. Why is there not an automated option to resend the correct item?????????

Not sure if they still have it, but years ago, they did have an exchange option, but the seller had to set it up in their return policy.
The seller can send you a prepaid shipping label to return the wrong item, then they can send you the correct item.

There's no automated way to handle this type of case because it's up to the seller how they want to do it.
In your case, since the seller sent the wrong item, he does have the option of having you return the incorrect item and can resend the correct one.
But sometimes, issuing a refund for the item you received (with or without requiring a return) is the best way to handle it since the seller may not even have the correct item to send. If he mixed up packages and sent your purchase to another buyer, the other buyer may not return the item he received so there's no way for the seller to send it to you.
And in other cases, especially if the item is inexpensive, the seller may just choose to issue a refund rather than pay return shipping that he may not recoup on a subsequent sale.

If the seller mixes up packages they might not have another one to send you. Buyers don't always return incorrect items. Also the time for a case could run out. It's always better to get your money back.
Sellers mixing up packages happens from time to time. Got to double and triple check before sending.
