Don't do anything by email. Ask him to upload the label to the ebay return case or use the eBay return label. There is no other reason to make futher conversation.

If I needed to send a return shipping label I would need the buyer's email address as they are in PDF format. You can only upload JPEGs through eBay's message system. JPEG copies turn out wonky or blurred as they have to be scanned for upload and PDF format gets lost.

Some sellers prefer to send their own return shipping labels because eBay only uses USPS with no insurance.

How does the seller expect to get your email address? Does the eBay messaging system no longer strip out anything the algorithm "thinks" might be contact information? Or has that changed recently?
(fun fact: it does, if personal experience is any guide, prevent sending any message with the word "paypal" in it.)
