Return Label and Reason for Return

I had a post on the seller forum about a seller drop-shipping from Amazon (with a gift receipt, apparently using their Prime). But this is now about the return.

To make a long story short, I looked at a listing for vacuum cleaner belts on Amazon but based on the reviews, I passed them up. I came to eBay, bought a package of two belts, and the !@#! seller drop-shipped the same ones to me that I had passed up on Amazon and of course for about $5 more.

I tried the belts last night, pretty sure they wouldn't fit anyway based on the Amazon reviews, even though the description indicated they would fit my model. And they didn't fit. The seller's policy is Seller pays for return shipping.

So I opened up a return today and chose Didn't fit, but apparently now it's supposed to be my responsibility to pay for return shipping because there isn't any label for me to print out, just an address to return them to. I guess I should have chosen Not as described for the seller to pay for return shipping.

I've emailed the seller to request a label and told her they didn't fit but they aren't as described because the description indicated they would fit my model. I don't have much hope that she'll respond with a label, or even respond at all.

If I should have chosen Not as described and the seller doesn't offer a label, is there a way to fix this by contacting eBay?

Re: Return Label and Reason for Return

That the seller provided a way for you to return it usually means they sent a return label.

DO NOT open a claim in paypal. Doing so will automatically close the ebay case and you won't be able to reopen it nor will you be able to get the return label.

If you cannot find the label in the return, send a message to the seller asking him to send you a PDF of the return label.

Re: Return Label and Reason for Return

It's strange I wasn't able to find a return label anywhere, there was just the return address.  I asked for the seller to send a return label sometime around three this afternoon, so I will see if she responds with one on Friday. If not, I'll request a PDF of the return label. If I don't get anything after three days, I can contact eBay and also mention that the seller is supposed to pay for returns.

Thanks, I wasn't going to open a claim in PayPal unless all options on eBay were exhausted.

Edit: As I said, I'm tired. I just noticed in the screen shot that it shows "Ship for free" at the top. Yikes!

Re: Return Label and Reason for Return

Thank you, yes, that’s exactly what I want to see.

Is that return address not in the US? That wording in the screenshot is interesting, because it sounds like what I would expect if they had provided you funds to ship back the item instead of a label, which would be necessary if they were having you return it somewhere overseas. If not, then it’s not a specific situation I’ve seen before.

Re: Return Label and Reason for Return

Oh good, glad that was it 🙂

No, it's a U.S. address, specifically a street address (apartment building) in New York City. I found the wording strange too since it didn't accompany a way to print out a label and it wasn't at all what I expected to find. I just looked again through my messages and return links, but no sign of a return label.

It's interesting that you say that because I saw the seller and listings and although the seller claims a US registration and listings show a NY ship from location, the listings themselves appear similar to Chinese dropshippers.

Re: Return Label and Reason for Return

Actually, I suspect the seller dropships from amazon.

That was confirmed, at least for this order, in @baby-packrat ‘s other thread they referenced.

I guess we don’t know for sure they do that for all their listings, but it seems likely.

Re: Return Label and Reason for Return

@baby-packrat This would definitely be a time I would suggest contacting customer service. I personally prefer the chat methods because you will get a transcript of the conversation, plus I just don’t like talking on the phone and having to pay attention in real time.

You can click this link to chat with an agent, or request a callback if that's offered:

Or you can contact eBay customer service via Facebook or X by sending a private message (don't post publicly on these pages):

@albertabrightalberta It's because this seller is drop-shipping from Amazon, and in the case of the belts and likely all the other items, the Amazon's shipper's name and address are Chinese. This seller is apparently just copying and pasting the text and pictures from the sellers on Amazon. When someone purchases one of their items on eBay, they use their Prime membership to have it drop-shipped to the buyer with a gift receipt. (When I bought the belts, their location was listed as Colorado and the belts shipped to me from an Amazon warehouse in Florida.)
