Probably been asked many times, but even after researching the issue and looking at my return preferences I'm still confused. I currently have free 30 day returns and would like it to stay that way, but I just had a return that the return label cost $12.35 for a shipment I only paid $7.02 for going out (both USPS Priority). eBay always automatically approves returns and provides the shipping label to the buyer. Is there any way to keep my 30 day free returns but stop the automatic label from eBay?

Yes @mercator_commodorum_vestituum just enable RMA in those return preferences.
eBay will still automatically approves returns but won't provides the shipping label to the buyer. Instead, you will haves 2 business days to looks over the returns, to just refunds no returns needed, uploads your owns returns labels, buys that labels from eBay, or so on.

Thank you very much. So do I have to create an advanced rule in that highlighted portion or do just check the box under the RMA section beneath it?

Just check the box for RMA and then you get the option to upload your own label. Pirate Ship might be a decent choice for a label.
