I recently had a person claim an item was not as described, when I knew there was nothing wrong with the item. I have noticed more and more that people/scammers just want a discount and use this avenue for to get one and normally I would make an offer for them to keep the item. Note this, that I sell vintage items and not new stuff and I try my best to describe as good as possible with words and pictures and sometimes I do make mistakes; this person made the claim and I knew nothing was wrong but regardless I was not going to offer a discount and stood my ground and stated just to return the object for a full refund when it returned. They shipped me an empty box back sealed! I had recently gotten an email from Ebay stating the item had returned and I needed to refund them. I filed a claim in return just to find out the next morning ebay had sided with them because they had a tracking number. I have proof from the Postal office the box was empty and she has typed me up an affidavit on Postal letter head. I am escalating the claim and taking lots of my time to try and stop this stuff from happening. Ebay states they cannot do anything to the buyer because of the tracking but with the Ebay money guarantee, Ebay states with the correct affidavit they will pay my money back. Eventually as the scams get more and more, Ebay is going to lose lots of money and possibly in the long term the business. My Suggestion is that as a seller we should be able to leave negative feedback towards these type buyers/scammers. There is no other reason I would leave negative other than for that type person. If they pay for it on time they "should" receive positive feedback. But being able to leave negative would capsulize the problem with scammers or expose them.

How would claiming an item is NAD earn anyone a discount?
Do they not open an item not as described case, return it, and get a refund?
So that winds up with you have the item to resell and they have a refund.
Are you offering a discount to get them to keep the item? Why?
So they then expect that same result when they try this on other sellers?
And, no matter what venue we use to sell, we have to go by the rules. And one of the eBay rules is "No negs for buyers".

I had someone on Amazon order 7 yards of fabric. They claimed that I sent the wrong fabric. I told them to return. I got 1 yard back from the 7, but I still have to refund the whole 7.
This is just how it is on all sites and to be honest, I have the fewest problems and returns on Ebay.
Negative feedback discourages buyers. They ended negative feedback from sellers because theyfound that buyers who received negative feedback tended not to shop on the site.

I prefer to do returns accepted but buyer pays for returns. I am still waiting for my first one....since I switched a long time ago. Sending something back as a buyer takes a little bit of work....I think it makes the buyer think twice about returns. And also partial refunds. Haven't had partial refunds either.
But if I had a problem I would not argue with buyer...I would just accept it. A negative or neutral feedback hurts. I have had one and had to stare at it for a year.

I always thought they ended negative feedback for buyers because there were so many sellers using it to threaten good buyers whenever they had a legitimate complaint. When I first started out I ran into more than a few sellers who would send me garbage and threaten to ruin my feedback if I attempted to resolve the issue. I'm sure other things played into it as well.

What good would giving negative feedback do?
They could just use another account and you would never know anything.
