Buyer unsatisfied with item but does not want to return

Good morning,

I mainly sell shoes and videogames and I am on the verge of reaching my 100 feedback with perfect score. I sold a pair of shoes on monday that was delivered yesterday.  This morning, I receive a message from the seller saying that the shoes smelled and hair in it which I find very hard to believe because I do clean all my shoes.  I sold quite a few of them since the beginning of this year and never had any issues on here poshmark and FB.

The buyer said that he was dissatisfied with the item but wanted to keep it. He also mentioned that he  intends  to leave negative feedback. I have a 60 days free return policy on all of my shoes except brand new.

Would you refund the buyer without him returning shoes just to avoid neg feedback.  I would not mind offering a partial refund but the fact that he mentions negative does not sit well with me. 

I don't mind taking a bad feedback for this. What would you do ?

Save all their messages. eBay has gotten better about removing unfair feedback.  Since you do offer returns , they should return it if unhappy.  I would not give them free merchandise .     Contact eBay customer support if they do give a Neg over it.

I'm with @simba6... I'd not refund the buyer without a Return. If you come to the feedback bridge, cross it then.

dear buyer. Sorry that you are not satisfied with your purchase. The shoes may be returned for a refund.

Dangit, I hate it when my dog tries to wear my shoes!

eBay says musty smells and odors aren't  covered.  The thing is eBay no longer decides case by case. If they did he would lose. 

Since they don't  decide case by case then you would lose. 

Tell them If you're not satisfied with the shoes to please return them for a full refund.
