You have few options. But before that, what do you mean by 'almost after a month'. Buyer's money back guarantee or MBG for short starts at the day of delivery and has a life span of 30 days

So you need to be precise. Is it in 30 day threshold or not?

I suppose, you're in 30 day after delivery.

So, first off, do you want to fight off this return or you're too busy with your business and life and just want to get this over with. Buyer is covered under MBG, just send a label out, take the belt back and refund once you have the item. If in any way, belt has been damaged or overused, because of length of time elapsed, you have a good shot at getting upto %50 of the sale and have your belt too

After the return of belt you've 48 hours/ two business days to file a report of damaged item. Damage needs to be considerable. You can prove it by new pictures vs pictures on venue. Too much time passed, close to 30 days. I am pretty sure, Buyer has used and abused the belt

Now if you want to fight, you need to prove, Buyer has used and abused the belt and out of the blue wants to return. If you have excellent presentation manors, while you're in talking period with Buyer, you need to have Buyer say it, the times belt was used. Then, respond to Buyer since the belt was used for X amount of times, you're not returning. Once eBay steps in, case be closed under MBG in favor of Buyer. You appeal, showing your pictures on venue, adding Buyer's own words of usage and hopefully win the case. So, it's all depends on the X factor and excellent presentation of your case to eBay. If you're not good at presentation don't attempt this

As you're talking to Buyer, there might a time, you could buy out the Buyer. Meaning; give partial refund and return will close. You need to negotiate on amount. Once both parties agree to an amount, give Buyer some money and you're done. My style is to go straightforward. Just ask if Buyer would take Y amount of money to leave you alone.  Pay by option provided to you by eBay. Don't do it if you don't see the option given to you. That's called Y factor.

Dear Buyer,
I am so sorry you are unhappy with your purchase, please find the item in your purchase history and then select "return for a refund," following this process will enable us to issue you a proper refund.
Thank you,
Seller

As you see @px_455  came out with a "sweet" factor. In this process, you, as a Seller, stay sweet and this would be part of your plan as the first route suggested. You still could take, sort of say; a sweet revenge, by examining the belt, the way it was mentioned on first paragraph of my last comment, and get upto %50 of the sale plus half of eBay fees

I think your only way to come out as a winner in this case is to know if item is used and abused. If so, how bad of a abusive was the usage! I am not saying this lightly. Sometimes Buyers buy items just because of their buying fever. The other times, they buy to use the item as much as they can and return it within the threshold of 30 days. Sample would be people seen in streets having the price tag hanging from their apparel. You know, those apparels be back on Big Box stores racks at some time

Unless you know something about the OP that I don't, the 50% 'short refund' won't work for @taraentp.

@taraentp

ARE you a Top Rated Seller who offers 30-Day (or better) Returns, or a seller who offers 'Free Returns'?

Two things:

  1. The OP is from Australia ... to offer partial refunds for a MBG claim, a seller has to be a US-based or Canada-based seller AND either (a) be TRS and offer 30-day returns, or (b) offer free returns.  This seller is none of these things, so the seller must fully refund if the buyer is making a MBG claim.
  2. If a seller provides a partial refund, eBay does not refund any fees.

Here's where you can brush up on a couple of eBay policies:  seller protections and fee credits

If you want the item returned before refunding, accept the return and pay return shipping.

Have a great day.

"You are not eligible for fee credits in any of the following situations:

  • You refund the buyer outside of eBay (using PayPal to send money, for instance)
  • You issued a partial refund to the buyer
  • You or the buyer asked us to step in, and the case was closed with a refund to the buyer"

Great, please read your own sources prior to opening a post for debate @orangehound

And please read my post one more time. It says; "Pay by option provided to you by eBay." Obviously, it means, eBay needs to give this Seller the Options, once option is not available, solution becomes null

What do you have to offer this Seller? Or, you're just chasing me from post to post, I wonder!?

I think you are missing @orangehound's point... and the point I made in the post #6. The OP doesn't have the ability to reduce the amount of the refund, whether it be for "sweet revenge" (as you put it) or for actual damage.

The seller is not a TRS with 30-Day Returns or Free Returns. We were only offering good information to the OP.

As much as, I want to be in much more detail but it seems my post wasn't clear.  "sweet revenge"  is when item comes back used and abused.

Thank you for tagged post

I'm trying to offer a correction to (what I believe to be) the incorrect guidance that you are giving to the OP ...

... overall, perhaps you are actually correct in some of the things you write (because eBay has secret policies that change, and honestly this board can be a bit biased with group-think), but if you have an opinion that contradicts eBay's published policies ... such as what I see you writing in this thread ... then there needs to be specific examples of how it applies.

(Overall, I can't put my finger on it, but I don't think you and I speak the same language.  It seems that you can't follow my logic, and I can't follow yours.)

@orangehound

Hey,

The whole world is on 50-50 thought pattern. And I appreciate your commonsense tone

It's fine with me if you want to correct me, but I had to get to know you better😀 I like to be corrected, that's how all learn.

Virtual World's rules are a bit different. They're beneficial to giants of this world. Small units try very hard with almost no results to unite, agree or listen to each other. History is showing as so!?
