I really need some help here. I don't know what else to do.
1. December 12th, 2022, I sold an exhaust system for $710. (Add for shipping, packaging, packing, and all, I paid $200 to send it. On top of that, is of course the eBay fee, $100.02. So I got about $400 after fees)
2. December 19th, I print the label. December 23rd, the item was delivered.
4. December 24th, the buyer requests a return under "Item not as described". His reason being "It is too loud. My friend has the same one and it is not as loud." He attached a picture that literally showed nothing.
5. Clearly, that was buyers remorse. I clearly stated to him that I did my job. I sent the item. I packed it well. I shipped exactly as I described.
6. Days pass and he responds on December 30th, "I went to a shop and they said the connector is bent making leaks." It is a premium exhaust system, there is no way the initial connector could bend at all.
7. Even if it was damaged, he let me know AFTER he installed it, NOT WHEN HE RECEIVED IT. I have no control of who installs his exhaust system, nor do I have any control over the way he damaged it himself.
8. We all end up going back and forth through eBay until January 2nd, when eBay sided with the buyer and made me accept the return.
9. I paid for a label. I sent it to the buyer. He never sent the return with my label. Ebay said he had until January 6th to ship my item.
10. I let eBay know, he still hasn't sent my item, at the end of the day on January 6th.
11. Ebay gives him ANOTHER 2 WEEKS to ship again. This time, they said that they would sent him a label and he has until January 20th.
12. Unexpectedly, tracking shows up on my Return Case saying that my item delivered to my front doorstep on January 18th, at 3:49PM from USPS in my same zip code.
13. I checked all of my home cameras, as well as my ring doorbell. I never got my item back even though the shipping shows delivered. January 18th is my birthday, so I definitely know everything that went on this day.
Conclusion:
- The buyer filed initially a claim on having buyers remorse.
- The buyer then openly admitted to installing the item first, and then finding damage after installing it.
- The buyer never showed any proof.
- Ebay sided with the buyer and let them return it with an over 20-day period window.
- The return shows delivered even though I never received it.
- I am out of my $700 payout because it is on hold due to the return.
I have been a seller since 2018 and never had a case like this happen.
I cannot afford to lose my hard earned money like this.
I really need some help, advice, anything.

Ebay just confirmed with me through email that they allowed to buyer to use their own return label even though I provided one to them.
They are also confirming that the buyer doesn't have to prove anything as long as the package delivers to your zip code, not your actual address.
I am already accepting this loss. I would like to warn other sellers to beware of return claims as such.

You never mentioned reporting the crime, mail fraud, to authorities. Doing that and providing copies of police reports to ebay as part of your appeal is something that has worked for some users.
