I recently sold a graded trading card to a buyer. The card was sent to the authentication service, which i believe is the same company that graded the card, and was authenticated without any problems. It was then sent to the buyer who messaged me saying that he wants to return it because it isn't as described. I explained that I sent it in the condition stated, it was authenticated to be in the condition stated, and that I did not accept returns per my listing. The buyer has now opened a return request with ebay and I got a message saying they're holding my funds, that the card will be sent back to authentication, they'll verify it again, the buyer will be refunded, and then the card will be sent back to me. I will lose money on this after my fees and shipping. What exactly is the point of the authenticity guarantee if the buyer can just turn around and return the item no questions asked? I thought it was supposed to protect me as the seller from this exact situation?

I'm not sure why they are allowing the buyer to return it. According to this, if you don't offer returns, the card shouldn't be returnable.
