Hi @gracieallen01 - we use data from our marketplace to determine the trending selling price of items based upon similar items sold. Thanks!

This brings up a thread from last time, about eBay's "comp" algorithm ignoring edition, condition, etc. In quite a few cases, the only items for sale, or in the catalog, were used paperbacks. The one I want to sell is a first edition hardback with both book and dustcover in excellent condition.
eBay said the appropriate price was 99¢...but others like mine had recently sold for up to $20.

This is just another of many instances where eBay has changed my listings, or how they are found (or not found) in searches, that harms my sales. I wish there were a way to "opt out" of eBay's "help" in these instances.

@Anonymous wrote: Hi @mr_lincoln, while we empower our sellers to set their item price as they see fit, having Best Offer included increases chances of a sale. An item may be priced at only a few dollars over the competition and a newer seller may find they are happy to shave a little off the price to ensure the item sells. Happy to assure you that we carefully monitor the impact these kinds of changes have on our Community.

Thanks for the reply Trinton and yes, that particular scenario makes sense ... I know it would be a big undertaking for eBay to keep track of all offers made as a % below list price but I suspect that the vast majority of them are more than a few dollars lower than list.  I get offers, even though I don't use BO, and unfortunately most of them are what folks might consider "low ball" ... in communicating with some of those Buyers a number have basically said it never hurts to ask ... anyway, and again, thanks for the reply.

The feedback form shows stars, however I don't see any explanation of what the 1st, 2nd, etc. stars stand for.  They are not labeled in any way that I can see, so how is a person to know if the 1st star is good or bad.  If the 4th star is good or bad?

@wendybac:  I believe you're referring to the new Leave Feedback form.... I will share this feedback with the team that works on this form though I suspect that as Feedback stars have become so standard on websites perhaps they didn't feel the need to state the explanations?  I will confirm and come back to this thread. Thanks! Sarah

This is a case where I wish we could label a response as "Not Helpful" (or have the Facebook options: Like, Love, Ha Ha, Wow, Tears, Anger).

Most places that have a 5-star option say: 1=very dissatisfied, 2=dissatisfied, 3-neutral, 4-somewhat satisfied, 5-very satisfied.
Since eBay considers a rating of 4 to be unsatisfactory, in need of improvement, that fact should be disclosed to buyers leaving feedback.

@vrykalak: Sorry you felt the response was unhelpful. I've passed your feedback along to the product team that controls that page. I like the idea of the Facebook options as that would give greater range of response. Thanks! Sarah

As seen in the forums, there are a lot of unhappy small sellers because eBay is now adding Best Offer to their listings.  Why does eBay feel it necessary to impose themselves at this level?  What a seller chooses to set as a price, and whether they want to deal with Best Offer should be up to the seller.

How many buyers are going to be unhappy when Best Offers are ignored or quickly declined with a message of "I don't take offers, and eBay won't allow me to turn off Best Offer."

I think this causes a negative experience for both the buyer and the seller.

Hi @dtexley3, we include Best Offer automatically when the listing price is above the trending price for that item. Any Best Offer under 30% of the asking price is automatically declined. Adding this feature in does not obligate a seller to accept the offer, and is intended to increase the chances of a successful sale. If a seller does not wish to review offers, they are welcome to switch over to the Advanced Listing Tool and create a new listing without Best Offer.

Good day,

Out of curiousity, what sources are used for the trending prices?

Thank you.

Hi @gracieallen01 - we use data from our marketplace to determine the trending selling price of items based upon similar items sold. Thanks!

Is that data on ended listings, sold listings, sold at original listing price, sold at best offer or all of them together?

Hi @gracieallen01 - the specifics you're looking for isn't something that I can discuss, as its considered proprietary. However, offers for less than 30% of the item price are auto-declined.

Hi Trinton,

I assume you got my email about having to probably leave EBay after the first of the year since the views had virtually stopped and I was not selling. I have an update and I hope it continues. I think they shook things up. This past week I sold more (all individual orders) than I have in the past 2 months combined.

Woo Hoo, I don't want to quit but thought I could not afford to pay for my EBay fees on what I was selling.

I do thank you for all you do.

Hi @texanna1@sarahbru shared a great list of tips in this thread to help when sales have slowed down and I know that our eBay For Business Facebook page will be happy to look into specific concerns you have. It may be time to diversify your business and bring in more inventory for other categories! trinton, I don't think this is about the listing form. I think it's tied to this announcement from October:

"Starting this week, eBay will begin testing a feature that will add Best Offer to auction-style listings. Only a select group of consumer sellers, those who are new to eBay or sell only occasionally, will be included in the test. Based on previous tests, we found this feature drives higher sales conversion, especially in cases when the starting bid is set higher than the recommended Buy it Now price. The option for a Best Offer disappears after the auction receives its first bid.

Sellers can auto-decline Best Offer requests through the Manage Offers feature. On

Desktop, go to the item page (view item) > Manage Offers > Change offer settings"

What is the status of this test?

Hi @my-cottage-books-and-antiques, as I understand it this Best Offer option is still applied at the time the listing is created and not after. The Best Offer option is only available until the first Bid is placed and at that point, will be removed. If an offer is made and a Bid is placed before the offer is responded to, the offer is declined. This only adds an additional way for a seller to potentially make a sale and would not interfere with the normal bidding process.

On the new feedback page, the written feedback field is no longer an autofill box.  Why was this changed?  I no longer leave feedback for anyone as I am not going to retype the message every time to leave feedback.  Was this a conscious decision?  Why?

Hi @mongoose26 - we tested this and weren't able to recreate the issue, as we could leave it through Seller Hub. If you're still seeing this would you mind starting a new thread and tagging us so we can take a closer look? Thanks!

I have a suggestion for ebay, when I'm in ebay, can you have the task bar at the top be fixed in position so that if I scroll down the top portion doesn't dissapear?  so the section where it says "daily deals", "gift cards"...."Sell", "My ebay"?  I routinely go between seller hub to search to some other area in ebay and having to scroll all the way back to the top just to navigate is very inefficient.  For example if I have lots of items to ship but all of a suddent I get a notification for an email or something I don't know that I got one unless I'm at the top of the page.  I'd like to know as soon as possible if a customer contacts me so I can adjust my other tasks to respond to them as fast as possible.

Hi @little_angel

I like this, it's an interesting idea.

We'll file an insight on this one and see if it can be a consideration for a future update.

Many thanks for sharing.

Local Pick up questions:

1. I recently had a local pick up sale and messaged the Buyer to ask if my address comes up for them to find me ... they said no and then included their cell phone number in the message.  Fortunately, we have not received any messages about sharing personal info, selling off the site or account closures or restirctions.  BUT, this begs the question, is it okay once a Local Pick up order has been placed for the Seller to 1) message the Buyer with personal contact info as well as the address, 2) mention Seller will send a letter in the mail with the contact info, etc..

2. On a non-Local Pickup sale the Buyer's email address is available in PayPal but on this recent one for me the Buyer's email did not appear in the PayPal transaction ... is that normal?

3. Paying cash:  okay, a while ago I asked that when a Local Pick up order is placed that payment through paypal be blocked forcing cash at pick up ... since eBay has not effected that change (yet) is it permissible to cancel the PP order, refund the $4 and wait for pick up for the cashola?  That is what I have read here in The Community that others recommend ... is that right and acceptable?

Hi @mr_lincoln, I'm going to get more clarification about questions 1 and 3. I'll send you an email when I have more details.

I believe PayPal is no longer providing contact information within PayPal transactions. You'll want to contact PayPal for a definitive answer, however.

Sometimes I see sellers come to the boards and say eBay requests all their receipt's for the things they have for sale. What triggers this?

In an effort to monitor activity on the site and ensure a safe trading environment, we occasionally ask member to provide proof of merchandise for items they have listed. Most commonly this is done to detect or prevent potential fraud. Thanks!

And in conclusion (maybe), my weekly whine:

There continue to be postings about the "request invoice" or "request total" button being disabled on the cart.  I understand that there are multiple reasons that cause this but the level of confusion and frustration continues.  Please consider just enabling the button.

Hi @dtexley3@, if you have some examples you can share with us then it would help us have a better idea of why this is occuring. You're welcome to @ mention one of us in a thread with more detailsabout transactions you feel warrant the request total button be activated.

@Thanks brian.  I think Trinton can more than fill you in on my thoughts in this area sunglasses   I can continue to @mention staff in those threads, but am doing my best not to abuse the ability to do so.

Hi @dtexley3@, I want to clarify that anytime you need to @mention us to look at something we can help resolve or benefit the community, we don't consider that abuse. Send us some examples and we'll be happy to take a closer look.

To make use of some type of coupon within the last day, potential buyers asked me to change the category for my listings of U.S. Mint American Buffalo 1-ounce gold coins from "bullion>gold bullion>gold bullion coins>American Buffalo>ungraded" to the category of "U.S. coins." Buyers say they cannot use their coupons under the bullion category but can use them under "U.S. coins." The 1-ounce American Buffalo coins would not be properly categorized outside of the bullion class of coin. Moreover, the U.S. Mint classifies the 1-ounce American Buffalo and other high-%-precious-metal coins as bullion; they are not classified as "commemorative" b/c they aren't issued to honor a special person, place, or event.

Here are my questions:

1) Would eBay allow me to change the listing category to enable buyers to use their coupons?

2) How should I proceed?

Hi @bremi8764_crzmeyvev, many coupons are offered for specific items or categories. Because changing the category would misrepresent the item (which limits the protections we can offer you) and would go against our miscatagorization policy, I strongly advise not changing the category.
