Did you mean:

specificity of 'categories'

Since 1999, I've been an 'eBayer' as both buyer and seller. I understand the difficulty in organizing 'Search' categories but, sometimes, the content of a category is more than inexact, misleading and annoying. For example, I often search the category of 'tower clocks' and find not only shelf clocks but, now, automotive parts! Please explain how a steering column attachment fits with mechanical tower clock. I look forward to your reply; you have my email address.

eBay is not here; this is a user forum. No one will email you as a result of posting here.

Sellers ultimately determine the categories where their items appear. Some sellers choose wisely; others not so much. It does not matter how specific or well-organized eBay categories are if sellers list items in the wrong categories.

You may find that searching using keywords, rather than simply browsing a category, can be effective. Choosing suitable keywords, narrowing to a particular category, then selecting relevant item-specific filter options can often allow you to find exactly what you are searching for without having to wade through lots of irrelevant listings.

I do not know anything about tower clocks, but this might be good place to start your search:

https://www.ebay.com/sch/261602/i.html?_from=R40&_nkw=tower.clock&LH_TitleDesc=0&_oac=1

That should find items in the Decorative Collectible Clock category that contain the term "tower clock" in the title or item-specifics. You can widen the search to include other categories, but that runs the risk of including lots of postcards of architectural tower clocks.
