Did you mean:

please verify yourself? why?

within the last few days, I am constantly prompted to verify myself with the stupid captcha picture thing. I see this "test" several times a day whenever I log in or answer a message, create a listing or purchase something. It's getting old fast.

Any ideas of this new development? I am using an old Dell with XP, so I'm obsolete already but this constant verification process is a new, extra aggravating waste of time.

What if I don't want to keep cookies or stay signed-in?

There is no future for eBay in frustrating their customers.

Re: please verify yourself? why?

You are telling your customers to disable their VPN. That is funny and pathetic, since some of us do use VPN for our protection against ID and/or password theft.

This i s from your post: "VPNs can also cause sign-in issues, so try disabling yours if you use one"

Your IT team needs to hold meetings with knowledgeable committee members who should act as gatekeepers against some half-ass software engineers who think they have sole authority to make changes that affect millions of legit users.

@tigrano

My customers?

You seem to be confused. This is a forum for members to share issues they are experiencing and to offer tips and advice. The only folks that work for eBay who post on these boards have "eBay" in their usernames.

If you are having problems signing in, and you use a VPN, you should consider trying to sign in without using a VPN to see if that makes any difference. That is a suggestion based on posts from other users that have had problems signing in while using a VPN. There are other suggestions as well if the problem lies elsewhere.

Good luck with that. Let us know how it goes.

Re: please verify yourself? why?

I have found simply hitting the refresh button bypasses the verify yourself step and allows me to just log in!

Re: please verify yourself? why?

This is a supreme waste of time - it asks you to do the same task over and over again, in a loop that never ends.  Definitely going to discourage anyone from using eBay.  They need to fix this asap.

If this problem just started happening recently, try another browser as a test, preferably a new one that you do not normally use, and that has no add-ons or extensions installed.

The most recent issue with sign-ins seems to be most commonly associated with ad blockers; disabling your ad blocker on the sign-in page may help.

Re: please verify yourself? why?

It makes sense to ask every now and then but asking every 3 or 5 page clicks makes no sense. It's only annoying and offensive at this frequency and it only makes me want to take my business elsewhere.

@lbunny_369

If you are needing to verify yourself "every 3 or 5 page clicks" there is something wrong with your browser, your cookies, your settings or your network.

I see you are registered in Hong Kong. Are you using a VPN? Not all VPNs are equal; some can cause verification problems.

Re: please verify yourself? why?

Appreciate the reply. I turned off my VPN and these verifications still won't go away (Windows 10 Firefox).

Re: please verify yourself? why?

For Firefox, try disabling Enhanced Tracking Protection on ebay.com using the shield icon to the left of the page address.

It might also be worth trying a private browsing window -- if the problem is related to a blocked or corrupt cookie, using a private browsing window may work. If so, try deleting your individual eBay cookies; clearing all cookies at once sometimes does not do the trick.

Sometimes using another browser entirely as a test can help if you do not want to spend too much time changing settings.

Who are you referring to? There is no moderator posting in this thread, only other users.

It may matter if you are using a VPN. If a user is outside the US and trying to sign in to a non-US site, providing a US link will not be much help, so it is often handy to know which site a user is actually trying to sign in to.

Aside from other browsers, what else have you tried?

Many different things can cause sign-in or verification issues, and without additional details it is difficult to say which problem you are experiencing.

I am able to sign in without getting a verification loop, so all I can offer are suggestions of things that have worked for other users or things that have worked previously for me in other similar situations.

Some browser settings, such as blocking cookies, can cause verification problems. Sometimes a private or incognito browser window is a convenient workaround -- if that works, try deleting individual eBay cookies and checking your settings to make sure cookies are not blocked. Some cleaning programs will also delete cookies periodically, which will cause you to go through verification again. Enhanced Tracking Protection in Firefox also causes problems in some cases.

If the problems with verification have started recently (or have gotten worse), try disabling your ad blocker on the sign in page -- or try a browser without an ad blocker. Sometimes working with a new browser with default settings and no add-ons or extensions is easier than trying to debug your particular setup.

My list of recommendations of things to try from last year can be found earlier in this thread here:

Re: please verify yourself? why?

I don't have a problem with the verify.... I have a problem that it just gives me another one... over and over and over again.  So, there are some Ebay Functions, I just can't do because I get the forever slider.
