Are you using a mobile browser? If so, is it possible that eBay links are actually opening in the eBay app?
See here for how to stop eBay links from opening in the eBay app:

I think it doesn't matter.

What browser are you using?
I typically open eBay links in a new tab anyway, so I did not notice when eBay changed the default behavior, but I have seen several posts about this issue recently.
If you are using Firefox, you can force your links to always open the in the same browser tab by default using the instructions here:
https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1226151
If you want to open links in a new tab, you can still use the contextual menus available by right clicking on the link.
Other browsers may have similar options available.

This just started for me also. I found some posts from 2017 about the same issue. Looks like Ebay is again changing/updating things and making it worse.

There needs to be a means to contact the dev people. Not all changes are good nor well thought out from the end user perspective. There was no problem with the way links behaved and now there is. It should be rolled back and put out to the user community for a vote on it.

Unfortunately this is not the only issue in which Ebay fails. I do most of my purchases through Amazon and Walmart because of the lack of quality customer service here. Only come to ebay for what I can't find elsewhere.

This just started happening to me too - now every time I click on a search result it opens a new tab! SO annoying! If I wanted a new tab I would have left-clicked!
I haven't found any helpful fix online, on eBay or anywhere else. I hope someone here posts some trick or something I can find soon. In the meantime I'll try to contact an elusive customer service rep, if I can find out how!?!
