I made a mistake in a listing due to cut and paste and tried to fix it but found it not possible due to locks.
I don't understand why there are so many locks preventing a seller from correcting typo mistakes. I could not even add any comment to help buyers if there was a serious misinformation error.
There are locks when the item will end within 12 hours where cancellation cannot be performed without the high bidder being asked to pay.
After the sale, the option is for the buyer to ask the seller to cancel the transaction. Of course eBay can collect all the fees, taxes, etc.. Later getting this all corrected maybe is difficult.

Locks are in place to prevent a seller from changing an item listing description if there are outstanding bids or offers, otherwise an unscrupulous seller could wait for a bid or offer on an expensive item, then change the listing to sell something else entirely.

Sound like you should have caught this sooner. It do happen so inform the purchaser and ask them what they want to do is the best way to deal with it.
