Like most of the web, nowadays, eBay wants your data, and if you do anything meaningful to protect it from them, you can expect nothing but problems.
I use a hardened fork of Firefox built to maintain and protect your privacy called LibreWolf. Because this browser prevents eBay from getting their grubby hands on information they don't need, any time I log into my eBay account, my account gets flagged. Over the last 24 hours, I've been forced by eBay's system to reset my password 3 times, and had my account completely locked - requiring a phone call with a rude and dismissive agent who proceeded to tell me that if I did not change to a browser that does not respect my privacy, I can simply expect to have this continue.
They then proceeded to gaslight me by saying that this was *not* what they said....and then repeating it. They also refused to allow me to speak to a supervisor. When I took my issue to the chat feature, I was transferred to a "dedicated team that will further help you with this, so that you can have appropriate resolution" - who read the chat.....and then immediately ended it.
I now can no longer even load the chat page.
Even more laughably, in an attempt to circumvent this issue and enable 2FA on my account, I found that the only options offered are through the eBay app, itself, or SMS, which is NOT secure - you (seemingly....I'm not installing their app on my device to dig further) cannot use a dedicated TOTP app.
Just an all around nightmarish privacy/security joke

Don't you think it has more to do with security issues than invading your privacy? You're trying to hide who you are when you're here and eBay is making sure it's you that's buying or selling.

I've given them my name, address, credit card, email, and a password - and if I were able to in an actually secure and trustworthy manner, multi-factor authentication credentials.
That's plenty of information for them to know I am who I say I am.
