Previously on eBay it was possible to search within sub catagories. For example, if I wanted to find a collectible fireman's badge from Boston, MA, to reach that point in my search I would follow these steps, first to "Collectibles", then to "Collectible Historical Memorabilia", then to "Firefighting & Rescue Memorabilia", then to "Collectible Firefighting & Rescue Obsolete Badges". Finally having reached this point in my search, I formerly would have been able to type into the search bar "Boston, MA" and a search would have proceeded in that final search catagory of "Collectible Firefighting & Rescue Obsolete Badges". Doing so now will result in a search of "Boston, MA" in ALL CATAGORIES. This has completly taken away the ability to narrow a search down into a specific catagory. Unless I am missing something, this has made eBay searches daunting and aggravating. Equally aggravating is the difficulty in making any contact with a live person who is well versed and knowledgable enough to listen to complaints and direct them to the people who need to hear them.

Type in Boston first, then filter by category.
Don't filter by category then type in Boston.
If you don't like how search works I encourage you to click the ? icon on the bottom right of the page and click the submit feedback link. Those comments go to the product developers.
I also suggest clicking the heart to save your favorite searches so you don't have to start over every time.

Try this search as a possible starting point:
