Why do I have play games to log in every time now ?

Starting a few weeks ago I have to "prove I'm human" every time I log in, by clicking on the images which contain some particular object.  It's a real nuisance. I've been on Ebay for many years and this is new within the last several weeks.

So what's changed, and is there any way I can disable it ?

Cheers,

Possibly you have changed your browser settings to no longer retain cookies after closing the browser, or you have changed service providers, or your service provider is assigning a new IP-address each time you sign in to eBay.

If you are using a VPN or hotspot, or privacy software such as Ghostery or Disconnect, any of those can cause verification issues.

I'm afraid that doesn't explain it... I'm using the same computer and ISP as I have for years. Of course my ISP could have made some change I don't know about, but as far as I can tell nothing  has actually changed here... one day this simply began to occur, so I'm pretty sure eBay is responsible, but what can I do to disable it ? I've checked all my sign in options and there's  no problem there.

If you started using a cleaner program that periodically erases your browser cookies, that could also cause verification issues for you.

If you have not changed your browser settings or anything else, then perhaps the eBay cookie in your browser is corrupt or blocked. Try manually erasing just your eBay cookies, or try another browser entirely and see if you encounter the same thing after signing out and back in again.

I only have to deal with verification when I erase my eBay cookies, use an unfamiliar browser, a private or incognito browser window, use another network IP-address, or sign in to an eBay country site such as ebay.ie.

Nope it's not the cookies. I delete them every night.

Whether I log in fresh or have already gotten logged in and then simply close the tab, when I return a few minutes later I have to re-verify all over again.

No idea why... I guess it's not the end of the world, but it's a nuisance without a cause... I wish I knew how to disable it !

Thanks for the replies...

That will cause you to have to go through verification the next day -- because you will have erased your eBay cookies from the previous session, and eBay will not recognize your browser the next time you sign in without cookies from a previous session.

Retaining eBay cookies rather than erasing them will prevent that.

I rarely sign out, almost always have a browser open with an eBay page loaded in at least one tab, rarely erase my cookies, always use the same IP-address (unless I have to reboot my cable modem and a new address is assigned), and as a result, I rarely have to sign in and almost never have to go through verification.

If you have a blocked or corrupt eBay cookie, then clearing all cookies at once may not fix that. Try manually deleting your individual eBay cookies one at a time.

There are several different things that can prevent you from retaining or updating your eBay cookies properly; unless you have addressed each issue, the issue you have not addressed can keep tripping you up.

Or try another browser altogether.

Well whatever the cause, I'm solidly logged in and shopping and I open another tab to eBay and BOOM... I'm asked to log in again. Only this time just the password, not the verify I'm human routine.

It's getting very unpleasant to shop on eBay... I wish someone would tell me how to fix this.

When you open another tab, what page you loading? If a specific selling page, feedback or your purchase history, that might trigger additional security checks, as opposed to something like search results or a random listing.

Have you tried another browser to see if you encounter the same issue?
