When checking the ¨Sold¨ box  a new window pops up with large blue bar at the top

When I start to list something I always like to look at the sold items to see get a rough idea of what I should price something at.

For the last few days when checking the ¨Sold¨ box  a new window pops up with large blue bar at the top.  It contains my search words in the blue bar plus a whole page of sponsored and best match listings that are available, not sold items.   It  entirely covers the other page and I have to hit escape to get it off my screen.

Then when I try to click the sold box again it takes a few more times of back and forth before anything that has been sold comes up.  I noticed that this window also happened when I clicked on an Ebay listing that was on Google shopping.  When it took me to this listing in Ebay right away the blue bar page popped up.

I use a chromebook with the Google Chrome browser and wonder is this something chrome is doing or is something new Ebay is doing.  Has anyone else seen this?  I want to figure out if I can make this stop.  Is there anything in settings that you might know of?

It was suggested that I cross post here from the sellers forum.  Someone said I might have been hijacked by malware?  What malware program should I use?

 Please disregard - I figured out what happened.  I can download apps to my laptop like I can with a phone with the chromebook and somehow I must have downloaded the ebay app.  It was getting confused with my other pages I was looking at through the web browser link I was logged into.  I uninstalled the app and am ok now.  This is my first chromebook and it takes getting used to after using the other types of computers all these years.

@lastade*

Thanks for taking the time to follow up -- your explanation makes sense now that I understand that the pop-up refers to the eBay app starting up.

I ran into a similar issue on my phone. After much experimentation I found a setting in the settings manager for the eBay app that had choice of "open by default" to automatically open supported links in the eBay app. Once I disabled that setting, browser links to eBay items would remain in the browser. If you ever want to re-install the eBay app on your Chromebook, you may be able to find a similar setting to disable that behavior.

If you do want to scan your Chromebook for malware, I believe Malwarebytes makes a Chromebook version of their anti-malware scanner.

Also, you should be aware that eBay has begun adding sponsored listings to search results, including to completed and sold results. The sponsored listings look like regular listings other than a "Sponsored" tag, generally appear at the top and bottom of the search results, and do not sort the way that other listings do. It is possible to remove the sponsored listings from the top of the search results and have them sort correctly by adding the Ad Block Plus extension to your browser and choosing to disable "Allow Acceptable Ads" in the settings.
