See the photo I've attached. It's from an auction of a Targus laptop bag. Notice there's a text box on the pic, showing the name of the item. This box appears whenever I hover over the pic. It's annoying, because if my cursor touches it while I'm zooming, the zoom stops and I have to try again. This has been happening for more than a year in Microsoft Edge.

This is several years old. If you click the box with most browsers it goes away. However if you mouse leaves the picture it will come back till you click it. This started shortly after the PayPal split around the time eBay started being more and more less transparent about issues. When this first started to happen I made several calls spoke with multiple reps till finally 1 admitted they could see it and that eBay knows about it but does not plan to do anything about it.

Whether or where exactly that text box appears depends on your particular browser. If the text box is big, it interferes with picture magnification any time the cursor touches the box, when moving the cursor around to examine the picture carefully.
One possible workaround: in the pictures I looked at using the Edge browser, the text box appears slightly above the cursor when it is moved over the picture. If you move the mouse cursor slowly over the picture from the top edge (stopping on the edge of the photo), the text box appears outside the frame of the picture, and then does not interfere with the magnification as you move your cursor around the picture.
In Firefox, the text appears to the right of the cursor, but disappears again if you move the cursor.
In Chrome, the text disappears, but reappears in the center of the image.
Another possible workaround -- by clicking on the image, you can see an enlarged version of the entire picture without having to move the mouse or see the text box.

Thanks for the reply. What's the purpose of it? It never existed before 2018.

I believe that is the alt text that appears if there is no image. In other situations (without the magnification) hovering over a picture to produce an alt text box could be a useful feature -- but it certainly causes a problem when the two features are combined in this way.

LOL, no surprise. Ebay has always felt they don't need to invest in user experience, since they possess a near-monopoly over this type of marketplace.

You can try moving the mouse around the box but usually it blocks the main portion of the image when in zoom mode. That is why I said to click the box it usually will go away. However when you are in zoom mode if the mouse leaves the edge of the picture the text box will come back till it is clicked again.
