Verify Account When Signing Out

Why do I have to verify my account when I go to sign out ?

I'm having the same issue. I am also having to click on the captcha pictures 6 to 12 times when trying to sign into both of my accounts. And then when I try to sign out from them I am getting the captcha verification thing again. I use firefox for my browser and this is happening on both a windows 10 and a windows 11 desktop computers. This has been going on for a few months now, sometimes worse than other days or weeks. The last few days it has been bad.

I am experiencing it for the past week or so as well. Never before that in many months. It is beyond stupid to require a gotcha puzzle on logout!!

I have been having the same issue for the past several days and it has become very annoying to have to verify myself when both signing in and signing out. Been on eBay for 25 years with the same id.

Are you using mozilla firefox browser like I am using? Contact ebay and make a report of this issue. Let them know that other ebay users are reporting the same issue. Maybe the more reports they get on it will help get the issue resolved sooner. I contacted them a few days ago.

I am using Win 10 pro 22h4 updated Jan 2025 and Firefox 134.0.2 updated 01/21, yesterday which is the second Firefox update in 10 days. Last night's update did NOT change the eBay response at all with this issue on either login or logouts.

I am using a windows 10 desktop computer and a windows 11 desktop computer, both up to date, and mozilla firefox which is up to date on both of them. And the latest firefox update has not changed anything either for me. I'm still having to repeat captcha with the pictures multiple attempts on signing in and signing out.

What I am experiencing is 2 captchas on login, one calling out tagged items of which there are none, so it requires a skip, then a second one with either 3 or 4 ice cream cones that requires a verify click, and then a direct login screen. On logout, it goes right to the ice cream cones which I now ignore and X out the browser to close it  just tired of the nonsense already. Always the same captchas, EVERY time! One could easily teach Artificial Ignorance to recognize those patterns very quickly.

I am befuddled at what everyone is doing to trigger this. Maybe try clearing cookies? My Firefox installation is locked down more than most, and I only rarely  (randomly?) see  these security prompts.

Hopefully most people know that you don't have to verify your account on signing out. Just close the tab/window and move on. If you're concerned about somebody using your account without permission, manually clear the EBay cookies. Firefox lists cookies at Settings -> Privacy and Security -> Cookies and Site Data -> Manage Data. I currently see a cookie entry for "ebay.com" with 29 cookies. Other browsers should have the same functionality.

If you're concerned that EBay's servers will look on this suspiciously, I haven't completed a security prompt here...ever? When they appear I close the tab and go to something else (highly offended by false positives), and as stated, I may see fewer prompts than average.

I don't usually clear my cookies and I have not been doing anything else differently that I can think of that would have caused this issue. Some of us can't stay logged in as some of us have more than one account. It seems to be a bug with ebay's captcha that is causing problems for those who use firefox for their browser. I have seen where chrome and some other browsers are also affected but it seems to be primarily firefox.

As long as you are the only one using your computer, it might be worth using a different browser for each eBay account; that way you can stay signed in to each account and just switch browsers to switch accounts. If you prefer to use only one browser, you may be able to open a private or incognito browser window for each eBay account.

I DO NOT think it has anything to do with the end users at all.  I have used Windows Pro current versions and Firefox for over 20 years, and have NEVER allowed third party cookies at all, host site essential cookies only for the  current session only, no tracking or customizing cookies at all and never have permitted stored cookies.  I automatically clear history, cookies and cache EVERY time Firefox browser is closed and have always used an ad blocker. Ebay gets into one of these repetitive "verify to continue" streaks every few months and cannot seem to get out of it nor acknowledge that it is a widespread occurrence. Their programmers are not the world's best by any means.

I discovered something! I logged in to    https://community.ebay.com  and there was NO GOTCHA puzzle to complete!!! I then went to bookmarked my ebay  and it left me logged in and still  no GOTCHA puzzle IMHO this problem is in the login servers on ONLY the ebay.com side of the operation as I originally stated.

I'm still having to verify  my account when signing out but I have been able to log into my other account without having to make multiple attempts at the captcha on signing in when I am switching from one account to the other one.
