Two purchases totaling almost $1350 showed up on my credit card, that I didn't make and did not show up anywhere in my account. I spoke with an agent, gave him the item numbers and he said yep, a totally different account, unassociated with mine, made those purchases and ebay used your payment method for their purchases. I told him these need to be removed. The only option he gave me was to file a dispute with my credit card carrier, which I have done. My card is canceled and I have to go through all the hassle of changing payments to a new card. Ebay screwed up royally here, so why is it my responsibility (and my bank's) to fix this? Is it too embarrassing to admit fault and fix this?
I'm sure the company has the tools to undo this. Why are they making me do the work??

Only you can open a payment dispute with your payment method.
Do it immediately.
Change the password on your Ebay account and any other online account which as access to that payment method.

You need to file a theft report your credit card company. eBay doesn't do that for you.
How did eBay screw you up?
Someone got a hold of your credit card and used it.

I usually get a text notification (iPhone) of a purchase(s) that large to OK it on my credit card(s).
I even have one debit card that tells me I made a purchase...even if it's 5 bucks...LOL.
Someone was able to have your credit card information and made purchases on eBay...sounds more like a credit card bank problem. Naturally, it should be disputed with the bank so no more charges are incurred to something else like Uber or Amazon and not just eBay.
If eBay did the work...the purchaser might still use your card for other store charges online.
I don't think it's an eBay problem.

Sounds like someone got your card information somewhere and used it, which is not an Ebay problem.
If it wasn't done on your Ebay account, not much they can do.
