Trusted Devices - no option to add

Hi All

We are a small business selling on eBay and we have four staff members (including myself) who need to access the account. We recently moved to two step authentication and this is causing issues as the 6 digit code is sent to the eBay registered mobile phone or email which only I have access to, and I have to then give each staff member the code each time they log in. In the eBay Two Step set up guide it says there will be an option to add a trusted device when you log in but none of us are seeing this option (we have tried desktop and mobile app, and have tried clearing cache, cookies etc). I spoke to eBay on the phone and they said you can also add a trusted device by going to 'Account Settings' and the 'Sign in and Security' and then 'Trusted Devices'. The option to add a device is not there either, just a message that says 'You haven't trusted a device yet'. They said there should be an 'edit' button there but we don't see that, just a 'view' button. In my phone call to eBay they said that they would sort this within 48 hours and it would then work but this was last week and it's still not fixed. We could change the sign in email to one that all 4 staff members have access to but we would rather set up trusted devices so that we don't have to do the 2 step every time. All four staff requiring eBay access are based in the company office and no one is remotely logging on or using shared devices.

Has anyone else had this issue, or know of how to resolve it?

Thank you

You have to add the trusted device when the member is logging in. There should be a box for "Remember this device", when you sign in with an untrusted device, and you have to check that box. These instructions don't give any other way to do it; you can remove devices from the "Sign in and security" but I don't think you can add a device there.

I think this may only work for the browser that it was set up in, and if the cookies are cleared, then you will have to log in again. I don't know if clearing cookies will remove the trusted device from the list or not. If you are having trouble with not seeing the option to "remember this device", then I would check to make sure that your browser is not set to automatically clear cookies when the browser is closed.

It's possible that the system might be getting nervous if there are multiple devices logging onto the same account at the same time. It might be better if you look into Multi-User account access. This might be a better solution.

Not a helpful response. As the saying goes 'If you can't say anything helpful, don't say anything at all'

We recently lost one of our brand's Instagram accounts with 80,000 followers due to some very clever phishing that fooled one of our most tech savvy employees. Phishing is becoming much more sophisticated these days. This wouldn't have happened if we had 2-Step verification so we are moving forward to adding to all accounts wherever possible.

Thank you so much @lacemaker3

That's a good idea. I had read about multi user access a while back but forgotten all about it, so I think that must be our best solution.

We have tried everything to make that 'remember this device' button appear - we even logged onto to eBay using Edge! 😄

Keep at it 2 step is a critical cybersecurity tool. It is perhaps the most critical one for every single computer user.

Don't know what kind of devices you use. When you get this figured out on eBay's end, if anyone is using a windows device you can also use windows facial recognition so sign in. I use it as my second factor and it's great. Just look at the camera. Nothing more.
