System doesn't let me enter return shipment tracking number

This is great. I'm returning an item to the seller (no probs there), and when I'm asked to mark the return shipment as sent and enter the tracking number *provided by Ebay*, the message bounces and says: this number is already in our system.

Net result: I can't mark the return as shipped. 
Just notified the seller of the hiccup. Ebay Tech Team: please fix this technical error in your system, i.e.:

 

When a shipment tracking number is associated with the very exact return the customer is entering the number for, circumvent the algorithm that prevents customers to enter existing USPS tracking numbers.
