Problems checking out. Ebay thinks I'm a bot.

Yesterday evening I went to pay for an item, however Ebay had other ideas.  A message came up stating "Pardon our interruption, but we think you might be a bot." There was other stuff as well, maybe I was a 'super scroller,' Java Script may not be enabled, it is. And some other stuff I didn't understand.

I'm an 'oldie,' and not very technical.  I'm extremely upset by this, nothing has ever happened in the last 8yrs that I've been with Ebay.

I've checked today, and still the same message. I live in the UK, and obviously use the UK site. I don't use the app. just the website. Apparently the app is not compatible with my device, but as I said, never had any problems. Please can anyone help me. Thank you.

@marlykins

You are registered in the UK, but you are currently signed in to ebay.com and you are posting on the ebay.com community pages.

Make sure your browser is up-to-date and has JavaScript enabled (and not blocked):

https://www.whatismybrowser.com/

In some cases, if you are using a bad link and getting stuck in a redirection loop, you can get that error message.

If the problem happens when trying to sign in, see if you can use a different link to sign in to the UK site.

https://signin.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll

Or try using a different browser; preferably the latest version of a popular browser such as Chrome or Firefox, with default settings and no add-ons.

Re: Problems checking out. Ebay thinks I'm a bot.

Thank you for replying.

I clicked on to the other Ebay link you suggested, but the same message still appeared.

I checked Java Script last night, and as far as I can see, it's installed in the system, and there is nothing to suggest it's been disabled.

I am always signed in to Ebay, so this issue occurred when I went to 'check out.'  I know from people having this same problem last year, who went on to the 'Community' pages, they were having this problem when trying to sign in.

I have just placed another call for Ebay to call me. I just had a very frustrating conversation, with someone who kept saying " So you're having problems signing in," having told her, and a colleague all the issues. I'm ashamed to say I did put the phone down!

From the conversation I was having with an agent last night, it appeared that other people were experiencing the same issue. She said she would 'tag' my details along with the others.

If you have any other ideas please inform me. Thank you.

Sorry to hear that -- this is obviously a frustrating issue for some users. The phone support folks are not technicians, and they are mostly reading from a script, so if a problem is not in their manual, they are not really qualified to provide much in the way of help.

If you use the "whatismybrowser" link, you should be able to tell if JavaScript is actually enabled and working, and if you have the latest available version of your browser for your operating system. If there is a browser update available, it might be worth updating. Some folks have apparently dealt with the issue this way.

Try using a private or incognito browser window to check out.

Or try another browser entirely, one you have not tried yet, such as Chrome, Firefox, Edge or Opera.

Or try checking out on ebay.ca, or ebay.ie if that works better.

Or try another device to check out and pay, if possible, such as using the eBay app on a phone.

Re: Problems checking out. Ebay thinks I'm a bot.

Hello,

Just to let you know, that the problem was resolved by Ebay, nothing to do with my device. Evidently it was a site wide problem, so I didn't feel so alone!  I first reported the issue on the Tuesday evening, and it was resolved by Friday. Hopefully it won't be a recurring event.
