I have been a member of ebay since 1999. I have 100% positive feedback. I have no outstanding, unpaid items and have no current bids on anything.
I received the following message when I tried to place a bid today. I have tried to bid on both Windows 10 and Android with the same results. Logged out and back in with no change.
Please follow the directions below to continue:
1. Receive an automated call at the phone number we have on file for you.
2. Remember the PIN (Personal Identification Number) you receive during the call.
3. Submit the PIN number to complete verification.
4. Click on “Item I last looked at” to make your purchase.
Any ideas why I need a PIN to bid?

What sort of item are you bidding on?
I have read that eBay requires some additional verification for bids over $500 in certain coin or watch categories.
See this long thread:
Specifically, here:
"eBay has a 2-factor verification flow for buyers who are purchasing items in bullion, watches, and coins categories. This is designed to help ensure a safe and secure experience for both our buyers and our sellers, and as a result, some buyers may be asked to verify their account prior to placing a bid. Given the unique nature of these types of items, we want our sellers to feel confident when selling these items."

I guess that's the problem. I was trying to bid on bullion. I wonder why jewelry and antique silver don't have the same policy?
Thank you.
