Problem logging in because of reCaptcha

I made a huge mistake, I logged out of my eBay.ca account!  I am in Canada and my account and listing are on the Canadian web site.  So, I logged out of my account and cleared my cookies & cache, and now I can no longer log on again.  I am being challenged by "reCaptcha", which I am OK with, then I answer the picture selections CORRECTLY, I am told I have answered correctly and have been verified as human - then I am bounced back to the screen where you enter your email address or username with the message "oops that is not a match".  Before getting any advice, this is happening in Chrome and Microsoft Edge, it is happening on a completely different PC as well.  It does not happen on Android - AND - I can log into my account on eBay.com.  However, because my account is on eBay.ca, I cannot send invoices, create listing, revise listings, etc.  According to on-line chat support and phone support, this is a known problem with a large number of users having this problem, but it can only be resolved by the "technical team".  My issue is with the length of time it is taking the "technical team" to resolve this issue.  I have no issue with the "on-line chat support" or the "phone-in support", but I do have an issue with the "technical team" not being able to resolve this in a timely manner.  This is costing sellers money and creating issues with finalizing sales with buyers.  A world-wide, multi-national, billion dollar company like eBay needs to look at the "technical support" they have and the time it takes to resolve issues affecting large numbers of users.  99% of issues are usually resolved by the chat or phone agents, but when it becomes a "technical" issue that they cannot fix and need to escalate to the "technical support" team, it seems to go into a "black hole".  Plus, no mention of this in the eBay Help areas, only on this eBay Help Forum, thank God for that!

Some browsers or browser settings are better than others when it comes to this sort of thing.

Try another browser or a private or incognito browser window -- if that works, the problem may be cache or cookie-related.

If you regularly erase your cookies or have your browser set to erase cookies on closure, you will have to sign in and go through verification the next time you go to eBay. But if the problem is a corrupt cookie, manually erasing your eBay cookies once can help.

Try using a different link to reach ebay.ca, particularly if you are using an old bookmark that may not be redirecting properly.

https://signin.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll

https://www.ebay.ca/signin/

Other things that can cause sign-in or verification problems: VPNs, privacy software such as Ghostery or Disconnect, blocking cookies, blocking third party cookies, blocking tracking, some script blockers, blocking JavaScript, some ad blockers -- at least on the sign-in or verification page.

If you have previously accessed your account through a Google, Facebook or Apple account at the sign-in screen, try that again -- but be careful not to accidentally create a new account that way.

Problem logging in because of reCaptcha

Hi, no I do not regularly delete cookies and once I get back in, I will not log out again.  This has to be directly related to an account setting on the eBay back end because I used a completely different computer with the same result.  Using Incognito is the same results.  As I mentioned, this is a know problem that is currently affecting many users and can only be resolved by eBay technical support on their end.  Trying to access the site without using bookmarks does not work because it is an issue with the account log in and reCaptcha.

Are you absolutely sure that eBay and only eBay can fix it, and that eBay is actually trying to fix the exact problem you are experiencing? If you are mistaken about that, you may be waiting a long time.

What if two weeks from now eBay announces it is fixed, but you still cannot sign in?

I would suggest trying a few different things yourself now while you are waiting for eBay to implement a fix.

Trying to access the site without using bookmarks does not work because it is an issue with the account log in and reCaptcha.

Millions of users sign in to ebay.ca without needing to rely on a particular bookmark. Your bookmark may actually be the source of your problem; it may no longer work.

It may be worth trying a recent version of a non-Chromium based browser with no active browser extensions installed, and then trying to sign in to ebay.ca via several different methods.

In the mean time, use your Android device to send invoices and revise your listings.

Problem logging in because of reCaptcha

Unfortunately, it is an eBay issue but with "Google's reCaptcha", so I can only assume that eBay needs to work with Google to fix the problem.  As I said, from talking to on-line support, there are a large number of users with the problem.  I haven't used any bookmarks, have used different browsers, even on different computers, and nothing works.  So many people having the same issue cannot be that we are all using the wrong browser or bookmarks.  Why would I be able to log into eBay.com with no problem at all?  I have tried everything from rebooting, restarting browsers, clearing cookies & caches, using incognito, etc. etc.

As I indicated, lots of different things can cause sign-in or verification problems. Some of those things may be out of your control, but many may not be.

At any given time there are probably hundreds of users (out of millions) having a problem signing in. In many cases, there may be something the user could do differently to get around a particular problem.

The problem may have to do with a particular browser, browser setting, browser extension, browser cache file or browser cookie.

Perhaps the browsers you have tried already all have the same setting, history, extension or vulnerability.

Perhaps trying a completely different browser that you have never used before may allow you to get around the problem.

The problem may lie elsewhere, but trying another browser (even if you have already tried a couple) is an easy thing to do and takes less time than you spent waiting for a call back or on hold.

Perhaps your network or your firewall is blocking the Captcha verification or sign-in on ebay.ca, but not on ebay.com. Sometimes odd errors go away when network equipment is rebooted.

If you are sure you have tried absolutely everything then I guess you are stuck using your Android device to manage your selling account until eBay and Google change the way that verification works.

If that was happening to me, I would be frustrated as well. Then I would try a few different things. Maybe use your Android device to link a social media account to your eBay account, and then try signing in via the social media account from your computer using different browsers.

Problem logging in because of reCaptcha

Well, how about that - thank you.  I managed to gain access by linking my Facebook account to my eBay account and then signing in with my Facebook account.  I was not aware this was even possible.  However, I am concerned that I need to use my Facebook account now to sign in and that my eBay is linked to my Facebook.  What are the issues or concerns with now having Facebook linked to my eBay account?

You are welcome -- very glad to hear that actually worked. I thought it was possible to get around some sign-in issues that way, but had not actually tried it myself.

Now that Facebook is linked to your eBay account you will have to make sure your Facebook account is secure, as anyone that gains access to your Facebook account can potentially use that to get into your eBay account. So make sure you have a secure password on Facebook and take care signing in to your social media on insecure networks.

With eBay and Facebook linked, eBay will probably share some of your data with Facebook (and vice versa). Not entirely sure what that entails.

If you are able to sign in to eBay again directly using username and password, you can unlink Facebook from your account.

Everything you described is exactly the problem I am having.  I tried Brave Browser, Chrome, and Edge.  None worked on my desktop, but those same browsers work fine on my android tablet.  This problem started May 1st 2022 and I am in Canada as well.

I am able to log into this eBay community site though.

I think its an issue with the new Chromium update.  After I updated my Browser it began.  Brave, Chrome, and Edge are all based on Chromium.

Version 1.38.109 Chromium: 101.0.4951.41 (Official Build) (64-bit)
