Parts Compatibility down?

The entire Parts Compatibility section is currently missing from the listing form when listing auto parts. I have a listing ready to go, but I can't finish the compatibility. Anybody else seeing this?

Re: Parts Compatibility down?

Ignore it and post the vehicle models it fits in the body of your text, the search engines will pick it up same as it did before the mess. If it comes back up check it carefully as it is HIGHLY inaccurate of non existent vehicle choices and which motors actually came in the vehicles/body style etc.

DO NOT assume since it is shown as a choice that it is correct!:

Example: 1967 Dodge Charger R/T    No such vehicle exists

1972 Dodge Challenger with 440 v8 or a 360 v8, 440 was not available in a 72 Challenger, only /6 318 340

426 Hemis in station wagons and 4 door sedans(66 Coronet 4door you could get a Hemi)

it goes on and on and is endless.

If you are dealing with Chrysler Dodge or Plymouth, nearly every chart listing is filled with incorrect vehicle that never were made or with engines never factory installed, which will cause "fitment" guarantees issues and seller pays for return shipping issues.

It's not working for me as well. Compatibility section in edit listing will only populate after I have listed the part.

Re: Parts Compatibility down?

I reported this to eBay...they are supposedly sending it up the chain to be looked at. I did find one workaround. If I do a "sell similar" on another listing, initially the compatibility section will be available, but I have to do everything in one shot. If I save the draft instead of listing it right away, when I go back in to work on the draft again, the compatibility section is gone.

I've encountered this plenty of times too. I probably spend more time on fitment research than any other seller in my category, but sometimes it's not possible to make a "perfect" fitment chart due to errors and omissions in the data. I think eBay is buying this fitment data from a third party, so I don't know if there's any way to report these problems, or frankly if they care. I've noticed it's worst on older vehicles, probably because correct information is harder to find.

Getting off topic here, but be aware that eBay is starting to add automatic fitment data to your listings unless you specifically opt out. It was announced in one of the recent seller updates. I opted out the minute I read that, because I'm certain that my own fitment data is more accurate than anything eBay can come up with. Their "product catalog" is always full of errors and nonsense. I try to avoid using any type of automated data because so much of it is wrong.

Re: Parts Compatibility down?

This just started happening 2 days ago. Thank you for the tip but sell similar is to slow when you have to get 40-60 items a day up.

I've found that the automatic fitment is actually to conservative at least on newer parts (2018+). It does save a lot of time for cheaper parts even if it's missing half the models it fits.

Re: Parts Compatibility down?

Well if they have decided to automatically add inaccurate fitment, then that would make them entirely responsible for their Fitment and return policy and as such should come out of their pockets rather than sellers. Any alterations ebay makes to my compat chart that was initially entered by me as far as I am concerned makes their policies null and void as well....There is absolutely no regard as to whether the information they provide is correct or not....and never will be., if such information was available EVERY SALVAGE/JUNKYARD on the planet would own it...however the best they have is called a Hollander Guide..and is exactly that only a guide and is up to the vendor who is selling the part to make sure visibly and to his best ability, much of which comes from years of experience in the industry...same deal at New Car dealerships, where one used to be able to walk into the dealership back to the parts counter and requested say a set of spark plugs for a 70 318 Dodge Coronet...the counter person usually could walk to the shelf pull the set of plugs and bill them out and everything was good to go...however today with the high tech in vehicles in order to get the right part for the right vehicle you must supply the VIN of the vehicle or you will not get any parts PERIOD...The counterperson types in the VIN and part needed and the computer spits out a printout with the correct part number to order or if you are luck off the self from inventory (ask me how I know) Requiring a VIN as exposes the owners name and address and vehicle information which will raise the issue of privacy, and the VIN also exposes the vehicle to auto theft as many have devises that will once a vin is entered will be able to take control of a vehicle...no keys or fobs need and can be remotely started. Not a liability that ebay would want to be involved with.

Again with this chart here is an example of the mess and why you if you sell parts requiring the use of the chart...this is a Chrysler example...something I know very well about...

I have listed a Jacking Instruction decal that fits a 1963 64 Plymouth Valiant and Dodge Dart listed on Oct 07, 2022 09:44:11 AM PDT with the correct boxes checked on both the Dodge Dart side as well as the Plymouth Valiant side...here is the item number if you would like to see for yourself of which I speak.   eBay item number:364008274028 now click on the compatibility chart and see what vehicles it states....where there was initially entered by me the correct Dodge and Plymouth check boxes...NOW THE ENTIRE DODGE SIDE IS GONE!  and this has happened to 90% of my listings and is due to the incompetence of whomever attempted to band aid the mess they made....Now after many and even heated phone conversations with the ebay phone answerer they have told me among the many different answers of which one is that unless ebay get a lot of complaints about an issue NOTHING really get done...to which I responded as to why they are not getting complaints from other sellers...it is because most and I would say 90-95% have no idea this has happened to their listings as once they enter it in their store they as anyone else would assume it was done and no reason to check it....but they do notice a drop in sales...which is caused by the information that was once their is no longer and no search engine can find which....you guessed it NO SALES....Now if anyone like myself runs a store selling auto parts and has built a large store and customer base that it has taken years to develop and time consuming when entering each items information, collectively years worth of work...to have ebay come along incompetently wipe it out in one sweep...gone....which will take months if not years to correct in revision land to re-enter what you initially had entered....So if you have a store selling auto parts (I can only speak of Chrysler but am sure those who sell Ford GM or other brands should begin checking your listings...) And begin to speak out so they have plenty or reason to fix the damage they have done....

Re: Parts Compatibility down?

I actually save my compatibility lists offline for this exact reason...I don't trust eBay not to corrupt the data somehow, and they limit how many templates we can save for future listings. I have like 600 text files, where each is a vehicle list for a given part that I've sold in the past. There is now a tool that's supposed to allow us to push this data back up to eBay in an automated fashion. I need to do some technical work to get that going and I haven't gotten around to it yet, but from initial testing I suspect it will work, which means I won't have to manually re-enter compatibility anymore if I already sold that part in the past.
