New Tab Opens When Clicking on Item Link

Every time I click on a item link from my Saved Searches Ebay opens a new tab... Very, Very annoying... If I wanted a new tab I could open one myself... What's up with this?? Doesn't happen on any other site.. More non improvements or just another glitch?

Agree.  I'm getting a new tab on every search item I click on.  New feature?  Glitch?  If it's a new feature, hopefully there is a means (or will be a means) to turn this off.  Understand that some will like it this way but please give us an option.

Any item listing with mixed secure and non secure content will open in a new window. This has to do with eBay's Active Content standard.

Another way to look at this. If a item description has http links it is non secure. IT will open in a seperate window. If the item description has all https links it will open in a new window if the html says target="_blank".

It is unclear whether eBay has settled on the standard yet. I think they have, but...

In other words, this is the new eBay.

It happens on every single item listing... not just some... Whatever the reason it's very annoying.. like many other non-improvements of late.. Been on Ebay for almost 20 years & have seen a lot of changes come & go.. some good some bad... but I think that there are people sitting around dreaming up these ridiculous non important changes to earn a paycheck....

Think Google, not eBay.

When I think Google I think of, read all my emails, snoop on my searches company.

And you think Ebay doesn't... I remember before  Messages when buyers & sellers could email each other privately without Ebay snooping... etc...

Oh sure they do. But not as bad as Google does. They read your private emails and then plaster ads all over your searches the next time for something you and a friend may have discussed. That is why their browser, Chrome, will never see the light of day on this computer or any computer I ever own. And why I use Duck Duck Go for my searches now.

I guess this has gotten away from my original post about the new Ebay tab thing... which is just another annoying new feature... I thought after the awful new search layout they would give it a rest for awhile....

I'm not seeing what you are seeing when I open listings. Are you seeing this from a search list?

OK, back to your original post. My point about 'Think Google, not eBay', is direct to your point.

Not all eBay 'decisions' are driven by eBay. The Brand/MPN, UPCs, non secure links are Google driven.

Almost all of the links on any eBay page are non secure. It takes extra processing to use https. This means slower page loading times. If eBay had it's wishes, they would not use https for all links. But another mover and shaker has said, "Well, we will just display Not Secure, in our browser"

Google Chrome now displays Not Secure on the URL line when it displays pages that are not 100% https. That message turns off buyers. eBay does not make money and neither do you when buyers are turned off. Since Chrome is doing this, it will not be long until all browsers do.

It will take some time for all eBay pages to be updated and all of their servers to be updated with the changes.

Brand/MPN and UPCs were a Google directive. eBay wants, and so do you, for your products to show up in Google search. Without the product identifiers, Google will not show them in search.

New Tab Opens When Clicking on Item Link

When I click on an item in any search a new tab open on my computer... for that particular item only.. when you close it you are back to you original search page.. If you didn't close the new tab.. every item you looked at after that would have it's own tab...

I basically understand what you are saying... However I think that opening new tabs for every item looked at can also turn off & confuse buyers especially ones that are new to Ebay or not very computer savvy...

This has been happening to me. However, I've discovered that it's a Chrome issue rather than an ebay one. It doesn't happen in Firefox nor M/Edge.
