Attempted to accept an offer approx 6 hours ago and item is still stuck in limbo. Item does not show up in oders, awaiting payment, or sold. When I go into the message to review offer there is no oprion to do anything.

You probably did successfully accept the offer and it's hanging out in Pending waiting for the buyer to pay. Go to your active listings page in seller hub and view all offers for that item - see if it's in Pending status. If you see it there, it's not an error, it's something eBay has been testing with accepted offers - they remain in pending status while the item is available for anybody else to purchase until the buyer pays. It's one of several things eBay is testing to cut down on non-payers and the inconvenience to sellers when buyers lose interest after an item ends, and seller has to start from scratch when they relist. If the buyer does not pay within a certain amount of time it will time out and be removed from the pending section. If the buyer pays then it will become an official transaction on your orders page @belpostcards .

Thank you so much, you are very correct. I hadn't experienced this before. @wastingtime101

Although I understand that ebay did this (supposedly) to help sellers avoid NPBs, if it's this confusing for experienced sellers, I can't even imagine how confusing it must be for newbies.
The first time it happened in one of my own listings in which I accepted an offer, I saw the listing still in my actives and got nervous, ended the listing and got a message from the buyer who was unable to pay for the now-ended listing.
I posted here and you @wastingtime101 explained what happened but I don't think ebay is clear enough in explaining this to either buyers OR sellers!
My buyer did ultimately buy and pay for the relisted item and in subsequent cases, I knew what to expect and didn't freak when I saw what I'd thought had been sold still showing as active.

I fully agree @albertabrightalberta ! It's not intuitive, it's not explained anywhere, the screenshot I posted above doesn't even explain it, and it's my opinion eBay should either email sellers to let them know they're part of this text or they should add clear text to the offers page explaining how it works.
Edit: I suppose it was somewhat explained in the last Seller Update (link) however there is no mention of the Pending tab or how it works, and the seller update was specifically about SIO (seller initiated offers), not buyer initiated offers or counter-offers.
Opportunity for better communications between eBay and sellers devon@ebay - this is the third time I answered this question in the last two days. We see it come up a lot. Thanks for anything you can do to get this in front of the right team for review.

I keep having to let buyers who submit counter offers to seek out the item after I have accepted because the item is stuck in Pending. It happens on on Counter Offers
