How about an option for refunds due to "damaged in post/transit" There is as far as I know currently not such an option, and the fact you refund under a other or cancelled option can cause issue. I am sure I am yy far not the only sellor who suffers from postage damage issues no matter how you wrap and double box etc items.

Does it really matter how it's damaged, it's all covered by the MBG and the results are the same.

Have a great day.

that's because the burden of the damage is on the carrier when you purchased insurance,

thus the incentive of up to $100 free.

i always anticipate the overage and build into handling fee to a reasonable point.

the recipient can file a claim online through USPS with your guidance as they have to take photos of box exterior and interior to prove packed properly. Or they can do at counter if they collected at PO.

challenge with first class is there is none- so always a risk for the $ saved

in my opinion ebay shouldn't have to compensate buyer for poor packing or handling in transit. no company does that

When a buyer receives an  order that is damaged in transit they are supposed to open a Not As Described request/claim and you refund from within that process.

As you mention, the options to choose when doing a direct FULL refund is important without a Not As Described claim. If it were me I would use Buyer Requested as the reason (essentially true with no negative ramifications) but really what you should do is direct the buyer to open a case then it's perfectly clear to all exactly why the refunding is being made and no way for eBay to think you are actually Out Of Stock (with the associated mega-defect).
