I have noticed the same glitch on the app on two separate items in the past week. When I receive a counteroffer and I go to accept it on the app, the item is not actually being registering as sold. It is instead sending an offer of the same amount that the buyer counter offered with back to the buyer. I have not seen this issue when accepting an offer (only a counteroffer).

Same thing keeps happening to me. Before, I was able to message the potential buyer and let them know it's a glitch and that I accepted their offer, but now I can't send them a message until/ unless they accept my counter offer and pay (the counter offer that I didn't send, but was sent by eBay when I clicked accept).
One of the buyers responded and claimed they didn't notice anything strange / different on their end. They claimed that it came through as waiting for payment on their side. Although reading it back, I'm not sure they understood what I was trying to say because they didn't really address the part about it showing up as the same counter offer amount. And the item was still showing as available for sale while the ghost counter offer was pending.
This it what seems like the biggest problem to me....that it is still showing as available for purchase even when I accept the offer. I don't know what I would do if both buyers were able to pay for the same item. Hopefully they have a work around if that happens so sellers don't get dinged for canceling a sale. And even still, who do you cancel on?
Anyway, I saw some posts on reddit saying ebay is aware and it has something to do with new changes they are rolling out. That's what I always hear when there's been glitches lately.
Crossing my fingers, not holding my breath...

I think this glitch is a fabulous way to create confusion and cause dings to the account for cancelling orders (the two buyer thing). It could cause a lot of issues.

OK so I just went on the community thread for the first time in a while to search "counteroffer glitch" because it's been happening to me also on the app for a couple months. It took me a bit to realize those offers weren't actually getting accepted when I'd accept them, and I'd say I've lost 5 or 6 sales now at this point. So before, I didn't raise a stink about it, because I learned if I just went on my desktop and accepted it then it would work.
But today, that changed. So beware! I just went on my desktop, accepted a counter, and boom. No sale. Sent the mirrored counter back to the potential buyer. At first I was contacting them to let them know what's been going on (the buyers) but this is getting old, and I don't really like bugging them about it because it feels really pushy to me, even though I know it's likely not, they want the item. Anyway, this really needs to get fixed. Wonder how much money ebay's flushing down the toilet by this being a worldwide thing. Sometimes it feels like they literally don't pay anybody to ever truly iron out the programming and the bugs or even test anything at all.

How do we get this presented to somebody that'll fix it? Is there a certain way to post something to get a work order to fix a known glitch? I was thinking about it and I'm positive that over 2 months this is now the 7th time it's happened, and we've had only 2 customers follow through to the end and still complete the sale, it's cost us right around $100. Not an enormous deal, but super annoying.

I've noticed the same thing happening to me as well. At first, it was only when accepting counteroffers on the eBay mobile app. Tonight, accepting a counteroffer on my desktop produced the same result. I've called into eBay technical support and even uploaded a screenshot to them once, but that was a couple of weeks ago - still no fix. The end data condition is the same:
The item is still listed for sale
Offers Sent Shows a counteroffer sent toward the buyer for their same amount
When clicking on the item, the site shows that I've accepted the buyer's offer, but there is still quantity 1 available.
It's very frustrating, and makes us look dumb to the buyer.

It's not a glitch.
They made a change to offers and when multiple offers go out, more than one person may have an offer accepted. The first to pay wins it but until it's paid for, the listing remains active.

If it's as-designed behavior, then it's been done with remarkable lack of clarity. There's several ways they could have made this more clear. It looks half-implemented and borderline broken. Also, I thought you couldn't make an offer anymore without providing payment information (at least my listings are set that way) - why would they change the rules in a very confusing manner for counter-offers?

it is a glitch....this is not just the item remaining active until its paid by someone....its once you accept the offer its sent back to the buyer as a counter offer instead of an accepted offer..theres no notification it sold...no way to send and invoice...nothing at all.......its been going on off and on for 2 months now...ive reported this to ebay several times just to have them fix it and then it return again a few days later...in my case doesnt matter if its multiple buyers or one buyer its still happening and it doesnt matter if i accept the offer on desktop or laptop...must have lost 500.00 since this issue started

Hard to believe but here it is May 11, 2024 and I just had this issue with 2 counteroffers and lost both sales. Worked with eBay to resolve and they acted like they never heard of this before. Waste of time and never fixed. I will never accept a counteroffer again. What a hassle. I have been with eBay for almost 25 years and I am just about done with this crap.
