Since updating to the latest version of Firefox (89), Ebay automatically opens a new tab when clicking on an item link. Is this just a bug or is there any way to stop it?

Maybe look for a tab controls extension, I know that they have them for firefox.
I didn't see anyone mention brave, but I'm on brave and it does the same thing. However, I like it. I'd rather have my original search page frozen as it was and just go to the new tab, and hotkey it closed when I'm done. Which puts me back on my search page.
But then, I use two screens, running two browsers with anywhere between 50 and 200 tabs open at a time. So one new tab means nothing to me.
Again, look into browser tab control extensions, and learn your hot keys, IMO.

This is an eBay change.
The search page defaults to new-tab, but can be customized to new-tab or same-tab for the duration of that session.
The item page still has same-tab for the seller profile areas, but new-tab when clicking on any of the merchandising modules.

Yes, right click on tab..click close tabs..that should do it.
