This started yesterday...while having eBay open in chrome browser on my iPad, I type into the search bar, and when I hit search, it opens the eBay app. I don’t want to search in the app. I don’t think I changed any settings. I don’t want to search in the app, how can I stop this?

Sort of the same thing happening to me, but on my phone. I browse/search on my buying account on my phone. I've clicked the 3 gray dots at top right and clicked on desktop. It stays in desktop version until I click on an item to view, then the window closes and goes to my app, which is signed in to my selling account.
Just started doing this yesterday. I prefer searching in the desktop version on my phone, so this is very frustrating.

Yes, usually I’m doing “research” and I prefer the ability to move between the open taps on my browser. The app is too cumbersome!

Try tapping and holding the eBay link in Chrome -- that should give you a list of options to either open in the browser or the app. I do not have an iPad, but I have read that if you choose to have qualified links open in the browser, your choice will be remembered next time you try to open such a link in Chrome.
If you are using an Android device there is a specific setting for the eBay app that can be reached using the settings manager of your device, but iOS is different.
