Modernist Headvase Any Ideas?

le*attique
Thrill-Seeker

Recent Estate Find:  We are at a loss.  7 inch tall headvase.

We thought we would run it up the flagpole here in Pottery land.  X over X incised between brackets.  There seem to be two letters barely discernable, some people see C and lower case "g"    in faint blue

Re: Modernist Headvase Any Ideas?

This is just my opinion, of course, but if listing it I wouldn't call it a head vase. People searching for head vases would be expecting something else; a lady head vase. I would call this a "face-decorated pottery vase" or a "face mask-decorated pottery vase".

Here is what Collectors Weekly says about the typical head vases:

Re: Modernist Headvase Any Ideas?

right. we are familiar with traditional lady head vases and this is not a head vase in that sense lol. it may not be a vase in fact others have observed the flat rim suggesting it may be a tobacco jar or other vessel for containing something.
this would make an interesting set of canisters. flour, sugar, coffee, ....

um.... anyway. thank you for your input you're exactly right.
