What the postman saw!

I thought I would start a thread to show examples of some of the messages on the backs of cards. Not necessarily humerous, social history is always facinating and so many cards give an insight to days gone by. I haven included an album, as I figured that we may get to hear more without having to go to the trouble of scanning etc. This is from a card sent to Miss Lily White of Margate in 1913: "You are a lucky girl to be having such good weather. I do hope you spend a thoroughly enjoyable time and come back looking better" Sara

lol Good idea to start this up, Sara - could be fun even if some of the original messages weren't intended to be! ;) Diane

Here's one that was sent to a Miss Lediard of Sydenham in 1916. Dear Adie, Will you send me the pattern book of the socks you made for Father as I am going to put new feet to them. from Dollie

I thought I would share this one with you all - It's one of my Edwardian Stage cards and it is titled "The Beauty of Bath which starred Miss Maudi Darrel (she sadly died at the age of 27) - Anyway the caption had me in stitches. Here is is: "Bless my Heart I'm among the trout for the first time, I do feel nervous" Sara

I thought I would dredge up this thread, as I found this message today. Addressed to : Mr Sitford, Grocer, Lingfield,Surrey. "Please send me half pound of liptons tea instead of a quarter" I wonder if she was having a tea party - i would add a picture but for some reason I can't post any in the groups album - still waiting a month later for ebay to tell me what the problem is. I have a New years card, dated 12/12/12 Sent to Anna Brandt of Pewaukee Wis. The message says "Keep this card for this date will not occur for another 100 years again" She must have kept it as told.

To juniorsmum: You can only post jpg and gif pictures, no bmps, etc. The moderator releases the pictures when they can, but anything posted a month ago would be up now if they were jpgs or gifs. You say you contacted eBay, but they have little to do with these groups as far as I've seen. - Terry

Sorry, I see that you do have an album, and it says you have 1.27 MB left for uploads. Hmm.

I saw a listing today, Poignant Message to Archie. From the description: McBurns is writing "Little" Archie, who isn't so little anymore. McBurns' wife's health isn't good. He says, "I am afraid her days are numbered to bad for she is surely a good woman . . . " I hope somebody will say that about me when my days are numbered! Jane

Hi Terry Yep I have space and I use jpg fromat, and have no problem with Turbo lister or anywhere else, EXCEPT this group! Ebay did say they would look into it, but I haven't had a response yet. I have never had this problem before, it is only since I have my new PC with deifferent imaging software that this has happened. I can load into photobucket OK too and it works OK The error message I get when I use the album is "Invalid content type" - I am totally flummoxed! Image hosting by Photobucket

I've gotten this same message from my old 'Word Perfect' word processing program, when I modify an image with Adobe Photoshop. Doesn't happen always, but often enough. Are your images smaller than the space left? Anyway, try this: edit your images, and save them as .gif files; that fixes the problem with inserting edited images into my word processor. - Terry
