What do you Collect?

Just thought I would get a new discussion going. Most of us sell a card or two but what type of cards do you keep? My own collection includes quite a variety. Edward H. Mitchell - Davenport, Iowa (my old home town) - Church Business (Rally Day, Attendance, Glad your Here, etc.) World Trade Center and Disney (old & new). Of course I have a few boxes of "I kinda like this one" cards. Joyce

I collect cards from my hometown in Nebraska and my husband collects postcards from his native Switzerland. I also have a bunch of cards I can't bear to part with. I really admire the Michael Rieder cards from California but don't collect them - I also like the Detroit Publishing Cards..ditto the tacky motel cards..HECK! I like them ALL!

What do you Collect?

Hi all, (yes I'm back from my trip to Florida!) I collect art nouveau & pre-world war 1 battleships (not a clue why I like the latter, I just do. And I also collect any card that doesn't sell (hehe) My hubbie collects cards that show golf courses, people golfing, and other golf-related things. Diane

I collect bat (the flying variety) related postcards, there are some super USA haloween ones as well as the more traditional naturalistic ones. Also bat stamps and other ephemera along with the cuddly kind - (yes really)and other batty items - I tend to avoid the jewellery as it is all a bit gothic. My latest aquisition is a backpack or batpack!(that no one will let me go out with!) It is a small collection but I have a wonderful time hunting for things as they are so scarce - The crowning glory of my collection is a victorian snuff box in red cinnebar with an art nouveau copper pin tray being a close second. I even have a cast iron door knocker waiting to be put on our new house when we eventually move!

Motelman, your collecting specialty inspired me to create a new Photo Album for unusual motel postcards. The DineAville Motel & Cafe postcard dates from 1962 and has a huge Flintstone-like pink dinosaur to lure roadside travelers inside.

Axel Eliasson Konstförlag, Stockholm cards (who would've guess it?!); Ferndale, CA (my old home town); Volcanoes and related landforms; selected Swedish parishes from which my ancestors lived, which include: Hedemora, Stora Tuna, Folkärna, Säter, Gagnef, Garpenberg, Linderås, Rök, Ekeby, Bjälbo, Väderstad, and others!! The first and last categories generally keep my budget pretty well broke. Dave

I used to collect Santas in non-red robes, but have gotten a little tired of that specialty. Now, I just look for unusual Santas carrying Christmas trees, which ties into another of my interests... real photo postcards from the early 1900s of decorated Christmas trees, preferably with children or toys in the picture. I also collect Billiken postcards published from 1909-1915 (Billiken is the school mascot of St. Louis University, my alma mater), along with old St. Louis University postcards. My newest collecting category: Real photo postcards of people dressed up as Uncle Sam. Since my husband was in the Air Force for 20 years, I like the patriotic theme of these old photo cards. I also collect postcards of the Berlin Wall, since 2 of our 3 kids were born in West Berlin while the city was still divided.

I really don't know what type of postcards I want to collect anymore! They are all so interesting! I guess I will just have a hodge-podge of everything... I just purchased two really nice postcards from England. I have posted them in a new Photo Album, Early Stage Actors & Actresses. I think you will like them! One is of a very young Billie Burke, the English actress who later played Glenda, the Good Witch in The Wizard of Oz. And dig that 18" corseted waist on Camille Clifford, who was renowned for her hourglass figure. Lynn 😄

Here are some other views of Camille Clifford. She was absolutely gorgeous, but how did she ever breathe? Camille Clifford & Her Famous Hourglass Figure
