How do you display cards?

I'm looking for good ideas on a way to put my cards out so people who come to my home can see them. I'd like to hear from you folks to see what kind of ways there are to display them. Not particularly all of them, but maybe 50 at any given time. Aside from framing or an acrylic easel type holder, I'm out of ideas. Thanks for your ideas. Add a picture! Dan

For using these easel type frames, I slip the card into a soft sleeve to protect it from scratches, and it won't stick to the plastic. And I avoid direct sunlight. Jim. 2 weeks, and my camera is still not here from Carlsbad, ca. I'm pi**ed! Now I have to start shopping again. Then, knowing my luck, the day I get another camera, this one will show up! You all have a great day. Dan

How do you display cards?

I have an album with my batty cards, but I have blown some up and framed them around my attic that way i get a bigger image and the postcards stay safe. Sara

I don't know how this works for card ''protection'' but there's nothing so professional looking or nice looking, I think as one of those shadow boxes,(the glass covered wood boxes somebody mentioned above--they have velvet often to mount your things on) with a little display of a postcard and something 3 dimesnional that has to do with it. For example my grandmother had a little display case with an antique paper fan and an antique pair of glasses and then a postcard or something with a really beautiful image on it. If you have the time and the money it looks really great. Personally I just want to use a matted frame to display the Dickens' Tuck's oillettes my great aunt had. Catherine

This may not be the type of display you want, but I use the archival plastic sheets that fit into a 3-ring binder. I use the 4-card per page size, and fit about 25 pages in a small binder. This isn't the same as displaying in frames, but I have felt comfortable showing friends some of my cards this way. The biggest drawback is that it takes some planning to figure out which cards to put on the same page, and in what order the pages should be in. --Richard--

And I have used Richard's way to display collectible cards of the non-postal variety out of the binder. Tacks thru the punched holes, or you can do a custom job on the pages if only using them for this kind of display. Planning? We don't need no steenkin' planning! Jim in KC 😉

My friend has a coffee table with a glass top and bottom which is hinged so she has a variety of items in it at any given time. Always a good conversation piece and changes all the time, and she thinks it's hysterical to make me limbo dance under it so I can see the back of the postcards! Sara

That's a great idea Sara. Kind of like the shadow box idea I got the other day. You could put cards, and "go withs" in it. I have a lot of Anderson collectibles that were made at locations on my cards. The only problem I'm seeing is exposure to sunlight. My easels aren't UV protected either.

Ooh Sara, what a cool idea! That WOULD make the neatest coffee table. A scrapbook where no one could miss it!!!! As for UV protection, you could always drink a lot of coffee and cover up the postcards with coasters and your coffee cup.;) Catherine

How do you display cards?

Here's another sort of batty idea I just got. A lot of my collectibles are stored in my closet. The shelves make perfect display spaces and that way they take up space in a ''neat'' sort of way. The obvious problem being you couldn't show it to friends and company. But for me it makes a little haven. And when the rest of my place is messy, at least my closet is clean:) Catherine

You can get UV protection glass - so could pop that in the top of the table! Sara

Joyce. That will be a very nice display when you get it done! I keep mine in a 3 ring binder with 4 card poly sleeves. I keep all of the same subjects together, and in order of dates. Oldest first, to newest last. Once in a while I need to add a new page and rearrange them when I get an old one with no spot on the page that it belongs on. It makes it easier for me since my field of collecting centers only on Anderson, Indiana cards. Dan

Thanks Dan, I do have most of my cards in albums these are the ones that just haven't been processed yet. Although I think everyone is getting used to the piles around the house - as long as they don't use them as coasters! Joyce
