Descriptions

I thought a light hearted thread for posting "hopeful" descriptions might be fun. My entry for mis-used word of the week is trimmed in this one: http://cgi.ebay.com/Great-Britain-SG218-Cover-to-Basutoland_W0QQitemZ300220097539QQihZ020QQcategoryZ... Paul

Re: Descriptions

The first one contains another error: instead of "1 card" it should read "1/2 card". For the 2nd one insert "by firefighter" in between 'wear' and 'as'.

Re: Descriptions

My first postcard up recently (since the wedding I have concentrated on the more lucrative but simpler world of comics, magazines, gaming items, & original art) and it is my oldest to list so far, 110 years old...I know, relatively late to the beginning of the post card. http://cgi.ebay.com/1898-Railway-Conductors-Union-Benefits-Post-Card-Iowa_W0QQitemZ350066553005QQcmd... A simple RR conductors Union benefits notice on a plain manilla card, not too pretty but it's not going to that particular crowd anyway but to the specialty market 😉 . My question to those of us who routinely handle these types of things this early - is there anything important my description is missing to clarify this style of card and its "official designation? And if you like train stuff or interesting geneaology info (Kerry tells me it is so...She Who Must Be Obeyed), tell me if The Price Is Right. (so, that's references to a British mystery show & an American game show for those keeping score) Thanks for any help. 2 Months married and still alive! -- Jim in High Ridge -- Edited by jaystargraph at 06/03/2008 9:50 AM PDT

Re: Descriptions

Well, I sure thought there might be something better to say about this post card but I guess I must have covered it all. I did move it from the former category to Postcards, Railroad (where most are picture cards), I hope it draws more interest. Thanks anyway. -- Jim in High Ridge

Re: Descriptions

Jim ~ That kind of card is probably more important to the genealogy crown, like me. ;) You could add the last names on the postcard to your description to draw in any historian. -- DebbiePhotobucket

Re: Descriptions

Thanks for the suggestion Debbie! I had been waiting for my wife to add the reference to a genealogy database to attract researchers of the pertinant families but I decided tonight to add that detail to my listing description, boldface to make it easier to find. Hope it works out for me, maybe on the re-list. -- Jim in High Ridge

Another description which amused: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/25680-Gravesend-Kent-early-m-v-postcard_W0QQitemZ290251226816QQcmdZViewItem?ha... "fair condition with some corner wear and minor creasings." I'd hate to see what his "poor condition and major creasings" might look like! P
