This is incredible, eBay has DONE IT AGAIN. Please everybody make notice that your social security, date of birth, ARE ALL REQUIRED and MANDATORY to sell on eBay. THERE IS NOT A WAY AROUND IT:
When you are completing your managed payment form, you can skip the social security part and go to the bank account information. HOWEVER, when you receive any payments, EBAY WILL KEEP YOUR MONEY UNTIL YOU ENTER YOUR SOCIAL SECURITY AND DATE OF BIRTH. So, if you do not want to give out your SSN like me, DO NOT COMPLETE THE BANK ACCOUNT MANAGED PAYMENT FORM because you will not be able to skip the SSN step.
I felt into their TRAP today and now EBAY HAVE MY MONEY and I am not going to be able to get it back until I enter my SSN. I AM OUT! KEEP YOU ALL EBAY FOR YOURSELF! GOOD LUCK AND BE CAREFULL!

Yes, the trick is:
1. Managed Payment. I do not want to enter my SSN but you can skip it for now. Please enter your bank account. Good you are ready to keep selling on EBAY! YEAHH!
2. Oh, you got a payment! Good, do you want you payment? Enter your SSN, it IS MANDATORY AND YOU CAN NOT SKIP IT NOW.
My question is, why if is mandatory eBay wait that you get a payment so they can hold on to the money until they get your SSN. If is required, SAY IT IS REQUIRED AND DO NOT LET PEOPLE SKIP IT so if they do not want to sell on eBay, they can just opt out. Why wait until I get a payment to REQUIRE IT?

I had PayPal for years. I was not even aware of this discussion section until I searched on Google: "WHY DOES EBAY WANT MY SSN? "
you do not have to be reading up and down to find out anything that has to do with your account. If managed payment requires a SSN, do not let people enter their bank account so that when they get a payment, YOU ARE FORCED / TRICKED to enter your SSN or eBay will keep your money. That does not sound right.
I understand that you guys all rule in favor of eBay because either you may not want to lose your selling privileges or your work for eBay. Happy wife, happy life. But hey, I am free to let everyone know what is going on so that people do not fall into their trap.

You are right, let eBay keep making themselves rich over those hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of Sellers. Not me.
What I think that it should be fair to do is:
1. Managed Payment: Please enter your SSN. No, I do not want to enter my SSN. So you are not allow to sell on eBay. Why let you skip it and after you get a payment, hold on to your money until you enter it?? Just say NO SSN, NO MANAGED PAYMENT. Then you say, bye eBay or here it is my SSN. That is all and simple.

You are right, Ebay cares about the numbers. Sign up without SSN and you count as another MP user. Great for the statistics!
Now if you Want your money, oh no, now we need your SSN.

Re: eBay Tricks People with Manage Payment: SOCIAL SECURITY REQUIRED
Stop the looping Perhaps you should be more up to date on policies:
https://www.irs.gov/businesses/understanding-your-form-1099-k
However, it should be noted a individual registered as a sole proprietor is required to file Schedule C when required. There is a minimum threshold of $400 for paying self employment tax.

The Big Knobs at eBay is still yet to field the question prompted a couple days Still waiting Charles

You have never received an email or eBay message that MP would be required, or an announcement email in email or eBay messages, in the last couple years?

No, we don't work for Ebay, we're just regular buyers/sellers, but we try to keep up to date on changes to help others.

And why is it that you are hysterical and scared to death to give them your SSN. WHAT are you thinking they are going to do with it? Perhaps you believe they will empty your checking account? Nope—they already make millions of dollars a year from sellers. Perhaps you think you will be hacked? Not very likely, HACKS on major websites are extremely rare, you are much more likely to be hacked with your CC card at a gas station which you probably visit daily. So if your fears come true and they actually did make some mistake, do you not think that they would be held COMPLETELY ACCOUNTABLE FOR THAT? YEP, they make a mistake with my account and I WILL hold them accountable and so would my lawyer. So in conclusion-What are you really afraid of?
