eBay Fee Payment

I noticed some forum discussion on the payment plan: requiring bank accounts.

My only 2 cents on this is that every business (almost without exception) provides multiple payment options: Credit Card, Debit Card, even Paypal.

I understand that eBay is splitting from Paypal, but most businesses use PayPal as an option. They're not anything but organizations using a vendor that offers one of the most liked payment options in the world.

I'm not a policy maker at eBay and this post doesn't have any weight or credit with the organization. They're in charge of their services: I respect that. But because I rely exclusively on credit cards over bank accounts, I'm limited to only the features on eBay that allows credit cards. That's mostly buying. When I had the credit card option for fee payments, I was able to sell. I even used PayPal as it was a preferred method of payment for many eBayers. I migrated partly to other platforms that retain use of Paypal and Credit Card options in their fee payment options.

That being said: I respect eBay decisions. My decisions are influenced by those decisions, because credit card and payment flexibility is my bread-and-butter in transactions: I can't live without options, and the flexibility they offer. I faithfully use eBay for its variety of products and features, private sellers, and the flexibility it retains on the buyer's side of the website. I didn't choose to stop selling on eBay: eBay simply made the decision for me, by discounting the value I could bring to their organization with credit cards and paypal. One day I could sell on eBay: the next day I couldn't. I didn't get any consultation: they elbowed me out. Since I and other sellers made up a decent amount of eBay's annual profits, through sales, I'm not sure how it really factors into their long-term goals to push out sellers dependent on credit and third-party payment vendors.

Good luck on your sales / purchases.

eBay Fee Payment

eBay takes their final value fee from the buyer’s payment before the seller gets it. The checking account is where they send the seller’s portion of the payment.

For other fees, eBay gives the seller multiple payment options.

You don’t seem to grasp how Managed Payments works. Maybe you should read up on that.

One day I could sell on eBay: the next day I couldn't.

The same thing happened years ago when eBay forced sellers to accept PayPal.

The sellers who refused to set up a PayPal account got left behind while everyone else moved forward.

Your bank account is used for 'Payments'; you can still use a credit or debit card and mark it as 'Preferred for selling costs'.

You seem to not understand how managed payments works. It is for the seller only. Buyers still have multiple payment options: Credit Card, Debit Card, even PayPal. Nothing has changed for buyers at all. Good luck selling your items on other marketplaces, which most have also migrated to the same payment system for sellers of using a checking account. Best of luck to you ....

Read my post carefully. I made it a point to discuss how I retain a lot of flexibility as a buyer. But thank you: your comments are appreciated.

Thank you for informing me about the particulars, but the issue is unchanged.

Exactly so.  I liked Billpoint and had no desire to switch to PayPal, but it was either switch or leave.  I switched.  I was glad to leave PayPal for MPs, when that time came, but the point is that whether or not I liked the change, I had to make the change or leave.  I didn't "get any consultation" either time, believe it or not.

Interesting.

Most sellers report they were notified numerous times via eBay announcements, emails, etc., regarding the transition into Managed Payments and given several opportunities to get their accounts enrolled.

eBay didn't contact you about Managed Payments, though, eh? That's odd.

They didn't elbow you out, you chose not to use managed payments - your decision and your right to make this decision.

Also, eBay isn't 'splitting' from Paypal - the divestiture was a done deal as of over six years ago now and managed payments started rolling out over two years ago.  This is pretty much settled law, as they say, here.  Paypal was no longer interested in carrying eBay.

Also, as a seller I couldn't care less about Paypal save to take it as one form of payment here, where it has value - I'm far more interested in the expanded payment options for buyers.  And using Adyen, which abides under stricter Euro rules, there is the opportunity to take quite a few more global payment methods - the US supplies only about 25% of eBay's business at this point.*

*I realise this is of more interest to those who trade internationally.

Honestly, I'd advise some thorough reading up on this to clarify some points.

Ebay split from PayPal in June of 2015.  So that is old news.

You are correct many businesses accept PayPal from their buyers as does Ebay.  It is the sellers that are no longer able to use PayPal.  Buyers are fine.

There is nothing wrong with the many options that buyers have to pay you as a seller on Ebay.  So your "bread and butter" should be unaffected, buyers don't have a change other than the GAIN a couple of payment options they didn't have before.

I take it that you take advantage of those cash back bonuses on your credit card.  I too love those things and collect them all year long to act as my Christmas Fund at the end of the year.  It works very well for me, so I respect that you may be using it for your own reasons.

I think you might be acting a little more dramatic than is needed.  "I can't live without options..."

Ebay isn't picking on you.  All sellers on Ebay are required to use Manage payments.  This hasn't been a secret.  What kind of "consultation" were you expecting?  I'm not aware of any seller that got that and I'm not sure why you would think they would.

No one is pushing you out.  You seen to be willing to leave for a very small amount of money that you might be losing on your credit cards.

It doesn't appear you have sold in over a year.

Is it that you don't want to give Ebay your Checking account number or your SSN?  Is that more of the issue?
