What happens if you don't link your checking account to ebay?

Just hypothetically speaking here.

Say you sell something but haven't linked your bank yet.

Does ebay hold your funds until a checking account is added? For how long? The money won't just vanish into thin air, will it?
I've been scouring google for the answer and I can't find a thing.

Thanks.

What happens if you don't link your checking account to ebay?

Hi @keekna0 ,

In order to get paid AND be able to list items on eBay your account needs to be registered in Managed Payments which requires your SSN, banking info, etc.  If you provide everything except the banking info you will not get paid, its that simple.

eBay has never posted on how long an account can sell without getting paid ... I mean they still get their Fees so the only one losing out is the Seller ...

If you do not want eBay to have your SSN or banking info then you will have to find a different venue to sell on ... but many are doing the same thing ...

If eBay can't process your refund then in about 6 months they'll send it to your state. Then you can claim the unclaimed funds.

@fab_finds4u   "Refund"?  Do you mean a Refund on a purchase?  I didn't see that mentioned by the OP ...

I thought I recalled reading that you can only go so long without linking a checking account and your selling privileges will be limited.....as previously stated, the money should eventually end up in your states unclaimed funds department years later (hypothetically....LOL)

hypothetically....why would you not want your hard earned money for selling?

Hi@keekna0

Here's an alternative option if you don't want to add your personal bank account to the managed payments pay out:

https://www.walmart.com/cp/green-dot-prepaid-visa-card/

Get a Walmart Green Dot bank account and use it only for your ebay transactions.  It's free to order on line, provides a bank and routing number and is perfectly legitimate.  I use one for my ebay transactions and a separate one for my other sites.  I have it for years an no problems.  You'll see ebay accepts as a bank.  Give it a shot.

Hope this helpful.  Have a great day.

Yes, I meant process your payout. If they can't process your pending  P A Y M E N T it will eventually be sent to their state.

Of course they do want their money, but probably are concerned about giving sensitive info about themselves.  These days, can't blame them for looking before they leap!  SSN? Bank account info?  Perfect photo of drivers license, what cereal they ate for breakfast?  What's next, blood type?

It'll probably be fine, but it's not hard to understand.

Giving EBAY your bank account info also allows them to pull money out of your account without your express authorization.  For that reason, do not co-mingle it with your main checking account.  If you sell something on EBAY and the buyer claims its not as represented, EBAY will pull the funds from your account no matter what you may say.  I recently experienced this myself with EBAY on a watch sale, and the seller did not return my watch.  I was out the funds and the merchandise.  Keep a separate account, and transfer it out as soon as you get paid.

If you think transfering it out as soon as you're paid is going to stop a clawback, it won't.  If the money's not there you'll get a bank charge for NSF and then eBay will go to your credit card for the money. If it's denied they'll turn you over to collections.
