The first and the last time selling on ebay

Is the first time I've ever sold anything on eBay I was behind on my car payment so I needed money I sold my grandfather's antique train set and I sold it for 1200 50 bucks and it's been nothing but a nightmare The shipping labels got printed out rowing they got two different item numbers and three different labels printed and one was UPS one was USPS one was it was just insanely stupid and it was probably my fault to begin with but the lack of compassion and the lack of ability to fix the issue or to give me the information that I needed to fix the issue I have had to dig and dig and I've had to run around I've had to stress on it it was one order it was one sale and it has now been completed the customer has gotten his items he has paid for him and eBay refuses to give me my money I am so **bleep** I have lost my car I've lost my grandfather's train set and I've lost $1,200 and eBay is just like laughing at me because they just show it there on the screen and they will not release it there is a hold on it for 30 days so I can't even touch it till next the end of next month and that's just absurd nobody mentioned it till after the sale that it was on hold for 30 for 30 days and I think that this is criminal I think it's wrong If I took somebody's money even if I was only holding it for 30 days If I took $1,000 from somebody I'd be going to jail you know I don't I don't get it I don't see why they say that this is to build trust between customers and eBay well I don't trust this I don't trust anything about it The sales complete why don't I have my money you know And all the way up the ladder they're all saying the same thing they can't do anything about it they can't do anything about it they can't take the hold off well then why did you put a hold on that you can't take off That's stupid that's wrong that's criminal that's careless this thoughtless that's bullying I definitely feel victimized I feel like this is just so wrong and I can't do anything about it there's not a thing I can do about it I have been calling and calling and calling and talking to people and just nothing works so all you first time buyers out there all you new buyers beware If you make too much they're going to keep your money and that's just all there is to it and there's nothing you can do about it cuz you already sent out the items so be cautious about your income and be cautious about how much you sell on there so I just I don't know I don't know what to do about this I don't know what to say about it I think eBay is evil without a car I think you know I'm going to lose my income I'm going to be getting even further behind on stuff and they're just going to be sitting there on the money that could have saved all of this All they had to do was just release the funds everything was done I did my part customer did their part eBay's just slacking on their they're in but every representative I spoke to was very nice and polite very sympathetic just simply could not do anything about it The management that I thought would be able to do something about it just did the same thing and they were even less compassionate than their representatives so I don't know I don't know about eBay but I don't know about you guys but I would rather go sell it on the corner for 50 bucks then you get a thousand bucks to stare at on the screen and lose everything and I have lost so much with this transaction it is the dumbest thing I have ever done and I will never ever do it again trust I don't trust eBay as far as I can throw it

I'm sorry to hear that this happened to you.

I know there is a hold on NEW seller's funds, but don't know all of the details.  Someone will respond with that info.

It is always a good idea to read up on what happens when you sell for the first time. eBay has posted it very clearly in Policy’s about funds on hold for new or infrequent sellers.
Payout Holds

Selling policies

Printing and Voiding Shipping Labels

I’m not sure how you ended up with multiple labels for different shippers.

You can void USPS labels by clicking Void Label but only if you haven’t already used it. If you didn’t use the UPS  label you won’t be charged until you use it.

I didn’t read your entire very long post as it is hard to read. Paragraphs would have helped.

First, ebay policy is always changing. At least 4 times a year, they do updates and they are announced. If you did not keep up with the changes , that is on you.  Your money is on hold to make sure that the item sold gets to the buyer and that everything is OK.  At the time that ebay stated, you WILL get your money MINUS the fees.   Now you will get them as long as ebay has your bank account information and they have your social security number.   Ebay had to do these changes because there were so many fraudulent sellers.  So now they treat every new seller like a crook, ,every casual seller as a crook and every seller that suddenly sold an expensive item.  Eventually you will get your money as long as the buyer does not open a claim.  In the meantime,  hopefully you can borrow money from a family member or friend until the funds come in.  Do NOT take it personally.  Once you sell more frequently and deliver great service, ebay will hold the money for shorter periods.

I have 2 seller accounts.  Feedback for both accounts totals almost 11,000. If I start selling with this third account, I will be treated as a brand new seller too.  So do not take it personally.

I sure hope you added Signature Delivery when you purchased the label. Does tracking details show it's a signature delivery?

New sellers have listing limits. I hope you didn't  exceed those limits.

Payments also can be held when you sell an item costing over $1,000.

The hold is usually for 14-30 days. Longer if your checking account isn't accepted for payouts.

You didn't loose the $1200, it'll just be awhile before it's sent to you.

When you listed the item, you agreed to their terms and that includes the payment holds.

Don't want to make it any worse, but the buyer has 30 days to open a case with Ebay and 180 days to open a case with Pay Pal for a refund or do a charge back with their credit card.

Have a great day.

Sorry you learned such a hard lesson. I'd not want to be a new (uninformed) seller on eBay now for anything.

You will get your money. Your new- so you have to wait 30 days to get your money. But do go to your sellers hub and see if you can change the way payouts are made. You can set up on demand, daily, weekly, bi-weekly or monthly.

Ebay does not use Paypal anymore- they at least use to let you get to your money quickly.

I stopped selling on Ebay last year. So things may have changed some.

Sorry you did not get the money asap. Ebay is always changing the rules.

I have been with Ebay since 1998 and miss the old days.  I had a good run- so do not give up.

Hopefully you gave a bank routing number and a Social Security number before the sale. Otherwise, you will not see that money for like a year or more. Just my opinion.

I'm sorry you are going through this tough time. Ebay holds onto the money for 30 days for new sellers because buyers have a 30 day money back guarantee. If there is something wrong with the item, the buyer can get a refund and eBay wants to make sure if that happens, they are refunding your money and not theirs. Trusted regular sellers get their money more quickly but that trust is earned over time. I'm sure you're done with eBay and you have other issues to deal with but eBay will get you all the money they owe you in due time. I understand that is small comfort after what you've gone through. Best wishes.

No, I wouldn't want to be a new (uninformed) seller now either, but wouldn't you (and I) at least read all the information available before listing an item for the first time, especially the part about how long a new seller's funds can be held?

Not everyone learns things the same way. Many folks develop a sense that if they 'do what they think is right' that things will work out. Others experience the 'guarantees' given to a buyer and assume there are similar protections available as a seller. Some people may never learn to setup their own Wifi, while others might never learn to change a tire. I have never really understood 'dark matter' though I have read several books on it. The poster may have thought they knew what they needed to know, or the stress of life may have led to a misstep. It happens.

I try and be empathetic when folks arrive here feeling angry or victimized. I also try very hard not to leave passive aggressive comments.

To the OP, I hope things get better for you. Even if they dont, keep doing your best and hopefully your funds will be released soon and the buyer will love your Grandfather's train set.
