@charlesv9354   Your state wants your tax dollars no matter how you shop now.

I shop brick and mortar for some things but other things even though I MIGHT find them for a bit less locally I will buy online.  I like shopping online because I can do it in my PJ's, no time wasted driving to and from the store either.   AND as the other answer said no lines.  🙂

Wal*mart isn't tax free,  they collect taxes for both state and local governments when required.

Actually, the time to use your vote was when voting for your State representatives/senators who voted to tax online sales. Believe me, eBay fought against it as hard as they could. They even approached eBay members to lobby against the states' passing the internet sales taxes.

It may come as a big surprise to you, but you're targeting the wrong perpetrator.

Unless you live in one of the four or five states that deems not to charge their residents sales/use tax you were probably suppose to have been paying tax on out of state purchases that you have had delivered to you all along.  However, since many states had trouble getting their residents to comply with their tax laws when the Supreme Court ruled that it was constitutional for them to do so, they passed marketplace facilitator laws that require online sellers and marketplaces such as eBay to collect these taxes for them.  The merchants and marketplaces have no choice but to collect them under these laws.  If you feel that these laws are not in the best interest of the citizens of your state, you will need to contact the state representatives in your state's legislature to try to convince them to repeal them.

Of course, even if they repeal the marketplace facilitator laws, you would probably still be liable for paying the taxes to the state yourself directly.  Unless, of course, you could get them to repeal the original sales/use tax laws as well.  Many of those were enacted decades ago.

As others have mentioned, Wally World and other B&M retailers are required to collect sales tax on items purchased from them so it really doesn't help to quit buying online at all.  Of course, if you should be able to get your state's original sales/use tax laws repealed, the B&M stores would no longer be collecting sales tax either.

However, I believe that that would take some convincing to get the state legislature do away with those taxes since they are what pays for most of the infrastructure in most states.   So naturally, they would have to find the revenue elsewhere which would probably mean state income and property taxes going up or services being cut.
