There is one thing I like about managed payments. Ebay fees are taken out right away.
Before it was way to easy to spend all the money you just got paid with paypal.
And many times it was very hard to come up with the huge ebay fees bill every month.
In fact, the last year or 2 there were several times I had to borrow money to pay my ebay fees bill. This was of course before I started using managed payments.
Now, my monthly ebay fees bill is usually like 100 to 300 dollars, very manageable.
My theory is, ebay was having a big problem getting paid their monthly ebay fees from sellers.
I feel like sales were better before 2018 and 2018 and 19 were difficult years for most sellers. many of us struggling to pay the monthly ebay fees bill. because we were struggling with the costs of living that came first in importance before our ebay fees bill. im talking of course rent and stuff like that.
So i think ebays answer was the managed payments system where they got their fee money up front after a sale. instead of waiting for us to pay them a month later, or im sure in many cases for them, never getting paid their fees.
My gripe is, now with managed payments far too often im feeling BROKE on the weekends and then praying i get my payouts on tuesday morning but lately it seems like its taking until wednesday morning to get my money from sales i made the previous wednesday through friday etc....
Please for the love of god ebay can we figure out how to get us our money just a bit quicker?
PLEASE? When I get paid for something on wednesday through friday morning, i should have access to that money by monday morning i think that is reasonable.
Getting paid for something on say thursday and not actually having access to the money until the next wednesday is a stretch for us sellers, but that seems to be about the norm?
Is there really no way to improve the time it takes us to get our hard earned money that we need to live our lives with? 😞

Re: Serious talk and theory why managed payments are forced on us.
If your concerns were not so serious could have referred you over to the chit chat lounge that's the only way eBay want to hear anything you have say. puppies and cookies.
the quacks over there trying hard to desensitize people that nothing critical is happening to sellers on eBay they have a whole big following they already experimented on. Looping "Change your payout to daily"
but fighting hard so as to ensure these pirates properly hold up their end of the bargain even if it takes a court order.

@kevincal20 - eBay previously allowed sellers to make one time payments at any time. I know some sellers who would choose to make a payment for fees after every sale or once a day for that day's sales. So if it is your preference not to have the bill build up over a month, that was already an option under the old system. To me that is the critical thing about Managed Payments - it has removed and restricted many options for sellers, like paying fees with a credit card to get reward points/cash back.
I don't think it was an issue of eBay having a significant problem with people not paying their monthly invoices. Remember, Managed Payments actually started in 2018, which means it was in development for some time before that.
More likely it's just that it greatly benefits eBay in many ways to have constant immediate cash flow freed up rather than waiting on 30 day billing cycles.
Managed Payments is designed for the benefit of eBay above anything and everything else. That's not to say that's entirely bad or there can't be some positives for sellers too, but when eBay's interests bump up against seller's interests you can bet which side is going to win.
I predicted months ago that eBay will also be moving to collecting promoted listings advertising fees at time of sale and recent updates to those policy pages show they are in fact going to do that. https://community.ebay.com/t5/Selling/TRS-Promoted-Listings-Credit-Going-Away-Weekly-Chat-Follow-Up/...
I'm sure the trend will continue that they will move to collecting as much as they can at time of sale vs monthly invoice. If that works for you and your business, great! But don't think it's because eBay cares about doing you any favors or making things more manageable for you, or that they care about sellers who say that *doesn't* work for them and they would prefer to stay on a 30 day billing cycle.

If one listened to the Corporate Conference Call where eBay discussed their business with analysts one would learn the KEY reason for the implementation of Managed Payments.
eBay expects that when fully implemented MP will result in an addition $1 Billion of revenues.
You need other reasons? 😁
PS- if you 'need' managed payments to help you budget your funds, perhaps one should go on the Seller threads and get some ideas on how to structure the business? You're not the only one with this issue and many in the Community would be glad to help. Shoot your example might help more than a few that are lurking.

Not if they alienate 50% of sellers. Not a finance expert but something is off with EBay, third new CEO in short time, can he clean up the mess, who knows what pressure is put on him by Wall Street? Big problem is that each new year they are likely pressured for more revenue, such push stresses the executives and sellers, who made EBay once great, are left behind.

Motivational slogans, baking skills, and Elvis spin MP on its axis.

That sounds more like a classic business cash flow problem. You need to keep enough liquid cash on had to run your operation. You are putting yourself at risk if there are a returns or charge backs filed. An operating cash reserve is a must.

eBay irrevocably transfers ownership of A/R at the time of sale.

They had no choice but to discount A/R at that point.
